Mac Backwardz ft: Vince lesha - Hate U, Love U (Official Video)

Following on from his electric single ‘Editor, Director’, Coventry-based rapper Mac Backwardz takes a soulful turn on the toxic love single ‘Hate U, Love U’ out now.

Once again teaming up with the production duo Harlem Ralph, the trio have created an alluring piece of music, inspired by Mac Miller’sThe Divine Feminine’ and the storytelling prowess of artists like The Streets or The Twang. By combining mellifluous melodies and soaring harmonies with the gentle keyboard and languid drums they have created a super soulful smooth and soulful track.

“I think this is the standout track of the project, so much time and effort was spent on this song alone due to the sheer amount of vocal and instrument layers involved” states Mac.

‘Hate U, Love U’ is a semi-autobiographical song about a soured relationship told from the perspective of the toxic person, and although both parties know it is wrong, they can’t keep apart.

“I wanted to write Hate U, Love U from the perspective of the more toxic person in the relationship,” Mac explains. “I feel a lot of the time these days when you hear songs about a soured relationship, you often hear it from the perspective of the person who thinks they're in the right. I wanted to flip that on its head as I felt it made for a more compelling dynamic and opened up new avenues for me to tell a narrative that isn't always heard”.

His previous single ‘Editor, Director’ was supported by underground UK publications Wordplay Magazine, The Pit, Certified UK and Blatantly Blunt and on ‘Hate U, Love U’ Mac Backwardz once again shows why he should be looked at as one of the most exciting new voices in the UK rap scene.
