JSWISS x Michael Leonhart ft: Keyon Harrold & DJ Logic - The Chase (Strings Attached) (Studio Video)

The Chase (Strings Attached) feat. Keyon Harrold & DJ Logic” is a new reworking from the collaborative minds of accomplished MC JSWISS and Grammy Award-winning producer and trumpeter Michael Leonhart.

The original track was released on their debut album, ‘Bona Fide’ receiving praise from the likes of NPR, Bandcamp Weekly’s The Hip Hop Show, Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music), WNYC, Vibe Magazine, Okayplayer and JAZZIZ. The pair have performed the project across the world including at JAZZMI Festival Milan, Winter Jazzfest, NYC and United Music of Deauville.

Reimagining “The Chase” with the assistance of an all-star Brooklyn-based string quartet (Mazz Swift, Dana Lyn, Jessica Troy, Marika Hughes), an extra layer of the track’s meticulously crafted sonic tapestry is unearthed. “This record is hands down one of the most exciting I’ve ever worked on,” JSWISS adds, “and a perfect example of what makes Michael and my collaboration so unique and effective.”

Anchored by Michael Leonhart’s piano-driven dynamic production, JSWISS’s profound wordplay and vocal flow meld into unexpected harmonies with the orchestrations, floating across heavy beats that combine old school boom bap with modern hip hop production. Alongside seductive horn lines from guest trumpeter Keyon Harrold (JAY-Z "Roc Boys", Mac Miller "Stay"), DJ Logic brings more new flavours and complexities to the song. The finished piece is a perfect melody of genre and musical disciplines that is both effortless in its genius and intricately layered with deliberate details.

JSWISS and Michael Leonhart released their first full project as a duo, “The Alchemy EP”, in January 2021 following a string of singles that included “Shut Him Down feat. Elvis Costello”. The pair began releasing together after a spark of creative chemistry during a monthly residency at NYC venue Jazz Standard, during which JSWISS guested with the Michael Leonhart Orchestra for performances broadcaston NPR and WBGO.
