Laura Brizuela - Introverted Extrovert (Official Video)
Having relived the roughest patch of her marriage on her R&B-leaning alt-pop single ‘As The Moon (Weightless)’, German-Paraguayan solo-artist Laura Brizuela’s nu-disco single ‘Introverted Extrovert’ (out via Embassy of Music on 30 June) grapples with the challenges of finding her true identity and being comfortable in her own skin. Switching gear and taking cues from twinkling Goldfrapp-inspired synths and groovy Kylie-esque basslines, Brizuela’s sensual voice and witty writing are presented in a way that feels contemporary yet classic at the same time.
‘Since I was always the life and soul of the party, I let myself be pushed into what they always said to me: you are fully extroverted. But there was always a part in me that wasn't like that at all.’
‘When I was 19, I took a somewhat detailed personality test for the first time, and at that time the result was predominantly extroverted. I was then at an event where all participants were divided according to their results, and I was placed at the table with the loud and hyper people and immediately felt that I somehow cannot truly belong there,’ Brizuela reveals.
‘I wrote Introverted Extrovert for everyone who feels the same way because there are many of us and we don't have to categorise ourselves!’
‘About 2 years later I found an article about introverted extroverts and for the first time I felt really understood. It was reading a report about myself, and it felt sooo good. I understood that I am somehow both and I started not to let myself be pushed into other people's statements. Now when I take the test it always comes out 50/50,’ Brizuela states.
