Weirdoe sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

When I was younger I started writing poetry and accapella rap lyrics, and then my brother and people around me started introducing me to Garage and Grime, from there I got lost in it and just fell in love with the craft. Me and my friends would link up, listen to music, and a lot of us started jumping on beats, freestyling, recording music.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I was inspired by Eminem and a few American artists growing up, but once I was immersed in the UK underground scene, it was the veterans of the Grime scene that spoke to me. Ghetts, Dizzee, Wiley, etc., the homegrown sounds. I could relate to them way more, I knew what they were talking about, they were talking about people like me in areas like where I was from. I’d love to work with Ghetts one day.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

Born in a Barn, my debut project just dropped, so we’re enjoying that one at the minute. I can’t let too much out right now, but let’s just say we won’t be going quiet this year, there’s an exciting future ahead for me and the team.

4. How would you describe your sound?

My sound is a reflection of me, and whatever I’m going through at that time. You might get me spitting till my lungs collapse on 140bpm if I’m feeling that way, or you might get me sounding more reflective if I feel that. There’s not really a single way of categorising it. I guess some people would say Grime for ease, but there’s more to me than that.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My debut Spitfire freestyle almost a decade ago was a big moment of mine to most people, people genuinely tell me all the time that they remember watching it when they were teenagers and still remember the lyrics, which is an amazing feeling. For me though, I’m really proud of the project I just put out, and what I’m working on now, it’s a new chapter and it’s exciting.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Be unapologetically yourself, don’t let anyone or anything steer your vision off course. Don’t listen to what the algorithm tells you to do.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

There’s bags of talent out there right now, it’s a really good time to be a UK artist, but if I had to hand pick some I’d say AntsLive, Wax Bentayga & Realz, they’re all doing their thing.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Ghetts - Ghetto Gospel: The New Testament and Kano - Made in the Manor, proper modern classics.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I’m a family man. I love spending time with my loved ones, time’s precious so give it to people who deserve it. I’m a bad boy in the kitchen as well though, so you can catch me whipping up a madness any day of the week.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Drinks. Notepad. Maybe a lighter… just in case it goes really dark, no other reason.
