All Points East Review 2023 Jungle

Set against the vibrant backdrop of London, this festival was a celebration of rhythm, melody, and soul to an electrifying extravaganza, bringing together the very best of hip hop, soul, and jazz.

Ragz Originale took the stage with an aura of confidence and artistry. He seamlessly transitioned through an array of emotions, taking the audience on a journey through the highs and lows of love and life. His presence exuded a delicate blend of elegance and raw magnetism. Yet, it was his music that truly set him apart. He played favourites such as ‘girls kiss girls’ and ‘brush u’.

Charlotte Day Wilson with an air of quiet confidence graced the stage. Wilson's set was a seamless fusion of R&B and soul, bringing together the rich tapestry of two genres that have always flowed through her vein. Each song, carefully curated and beautifully executed, took listeners on a journey through the depths of human emotion. Her hauntingly powerful voice effortlessly traversed the highs and lows. Unfortunately we were unable to watch her whole set as the heavens opened with rain, hail, thunder and lightening.

Known for their innovative approach and electrifying performances, this Canadian quartet BADBADNOTGOOD has become a beacon of creativity in the modern jazz scene. They intertwines elements of jazz, hip-hop, electronic, and rock. We got just the tip of the iceberg when we watched their performance. They treated us to a brand new single which features Charlotte Day Wilson, we can’t wait for it to come out! Whether it involves incorporating electronic textures, reimagining hip-hop classics, or collaborating with eclectic artists, their fearless approach adds a refreshing twist to the jazz landscape. BADBADNOTGOOD is an undeniable force, reigniting the fire of jazz and proving that this timeless genre is far from stagnant.

Applause and cheers erupted like thunder, echoing throughout the audience we all knew the Queen is coming. Erykah Badu drenched in a sense of euphoria and reverence. Every note resonated deeply, reaching the depths of every listener's soul. Transformed into a sanctuary where hearts were opened and emotions flowed free as she told her all to hold up our hands and we felt the warm energy flowing, our hands were all warm and then she cheekily told us it was was her pussy we all giggled.

I was stood right at the front next to a lovely lady and her daughter. She explained to me how overwhelmed she felt as she thought she would never get to see Erykah Badu live. She’d brought her daughter up on artists such as Jill Scott, D’Angelo and of course Erykah, now its her daughters favourites. She told be because Erykah hasn’t been back in years she thought she would never get to see her, I said I felt the same way I even use to complain to my parents about it. I told her that after Erykah’s Baduizm album hit 25years she has come back to the UK and what a treat. Such a special moment that you and you daughter get to share together. She told me that she might cry when she comes out and I the daughter agreed. I said it was perfectly acceptable to cry at Erykah I know I did when I first saw her. When she came out both of them were in floods of tears we had a group hug and I told them to let it out and feel all their feelings. The memory of her immaculate performance lingered, a testament to the power and timeless beauty of Neo-Soul music

Jungle put on a hypnotic performance as some swayed to the rhythm, lost in the enchanting melodies, while others closed their eyes, surrendering to the sheer beauty of their performance. The stage was adorned with stunning lights and an intricate display of visual art, setting the mood for an audial and visual extravaganza. Jungle's setlist showcased their mastery of blending electronic elements with live instrumentation. They seamlessly transitioned between high-energy anthems. Their captivating music, infectious energy, and electric chemistry with the crowd made for an unforgettable night.
