Maya Law - 6AM (Single)

Singer songwriter Maya Law has returned with her mesmerising new single ‘6AM’, set for release on Friday 11th August via independent label TLD Records.

Part of a series of singles released this year (starting off with ‘Mother Tongue’ and followed by ‘Bad Guy’ and ‘Losing It All’), Maya Law’s latest offering highlights her refined sound that favours an electronic take on soul, jazz and R&B. Produced and mixed by longtime collaborator and solo artist Freya Roy, ‘6AM’ finds Maya Law recalling a heavy night of intoxication that weaves together themes of desire and betrayal.

Delivered in her confessional style, ‘6AM’ is driven by Maya’s faultless vocal and some spellbinding electric guitar work provided by Roy. A slick and seductive display, Maya Law shares the inspiration behind the track: “6AM is a story of drunk chats, drunk confessions and hungover realisations. We’ve all been a bit loose lipped when we’ve had one too many but this time it landed me in a sticky situation. It’s much more of a story than a song for me, I wanted people to listen, read between the lines, and be able to work out what had happened. It’s the first time I’ve written from someone else’s point of view, and tried to fill in the gaps of a situation I wasn’t sure about.”

Fresh from performing on the BBC Introducing stage at Latitude festival, Maya Law continues to stand out as a rising talent whose autobiographical songwriting offers a refreshingly candid insight into her personal experiences with mental health and being a queer woman of colour. Last year she supported Pip Millett and Children of Zeus at their respective gigs in Maya’s hometown of Norwich, and linked up with producer Mom Tudie on luscious cut, ‘Gold’. Her captivating style has seen her receive plaudits from the likes of CLASH, New Wave Magazine, Rebecca Judd, and Jamz Supernova, while she’s also been heavily championed by BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Introducing.

As ‘6AM’ ushers in a new era for Maya Law, expect to hear a lot more from this rising star in 2023.
