Lizzie Berchie - We Found Love (Single)
British-Ghanaian singer-songwriter Lizzie Berchie has unveiled her buttery smooth new single ‘We Found Love’ and announced the upcoming release of her sophomore EP ‘Am I An Adult Yet’.
Intended for mature and vulnerable romantics everywhere, ‘We Found Love’ is a subtle reminder to sometimes lead with feeling as opposed to rationale. Its oozing sensuality is brought to life with Berchie’s signature legato vocals. Accompanying this are enchanting orchestral string arrangements with sensibilities that are slightly country-infused.
Produced by long-time collaborator Hilts, ‘We Found Love’ elegantly invokes the baroque and classicist sound of Minnie Riperton and her work with Charles Stepney.
Speaking on Minnie’s influence on the track, Berchie said: “I had the lyrics and the melody before anything else, but I could hear in my head exactly what I wanted. I wanted to wrap the melody with a warm summery sonic. I was listening to a lot of Minnie Riperton and she was very much an inspiration for this track. The way her music makes you want to lay in the sun is exactly how I wanted ‘We Found Love’ to feel”.
‘We Found Love’ arrives nearly three months after the release of Berchie’s previous singles ‘Don’t Get Ahead Of Yourself’ and ‘Flaws & All’. The gospel-tinged and roof-raising soul of the latter track would upon its official arrival earn plaudits and praise from reputable titles outlets like COLORS, The Line Of Best Fit, CLASH, ThatGrapeJuice, Wordplay Magazine and WE ARE SOUL. While simultaneously securing plays on BBC Radio 1 and amassing over 100k streams across all DSP platforms.
The unveiling of ‘We Found Love’ arrives alongside news that Lizzie’s new EP ‘Am I An Adult Yet?’ will hit streaming services and digital retailers on September 20th. Comprised of 6-tracks, the project is a down to earth declaration on the whirlwind rollercoasters that come with young Black British womanhood. Articulating with searing accuracy and relatability the daily trials, tribulations, fears and anxieties that plague those navigating the thorny and unpredictable nature of their mid-to-late twenties.
