Sly5thAve - Monoxide (Single)

Monoxide” is the second offering from composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist Sly5thAve taken from his upcoming LP ‘Liberation’.

The single sits the edge of hip-hop, while still finding rooting in funk, driven by a bassline from iconic bassist and Ghost Note bandmate MonoNeon. Navigating through creative tribulations, Sly5thAve deliberately allocated time for introspection, redirecting the artistic focus inward. The result was ‘Liberation’ - a harmonious balance of collaborative efforts and independent musings, and Sly5thAve’s first full album of original orchestral music.

The drone of the groove on “Monoxide” is emphasised with drums contributing an unrelenting loop and punctuated by brief moments of release when they momentarily drop out - an auditory experience that, in Sly5thAve’s words, “just hits you over the head.” The very essence of the song's title, "Monoxide" draws parallels to the nature of gas that goes undetected until it's too late, a metaphor for the gradual and entrancing way the groove creeps into the listener's system over time.

‘Liberation’ draws its name from the sense of accomplishment Sly5thAve experienced upon completion of the title track. He explains “I was liberated musically by finally getting this out. I was liberated spiritually by finding my own voice. I was liberated from fear”. Sly5thAve will be celebrating the release of the album with live dates around the UK and Ireland, including a double headline show at London’s iconic Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
