North Welsh artist M. Yesekaon, from Colwyn Bay, has been working behind the scenes performing, producing, mixing and mastering all his own music since he established the project. So much so that recently he received backing from Youth Music’s NextGen Fund for a project later this year and PRS Foundation support via the Forté Project, an artist development programme run for emerging artists in Wales. His tracks range from the smoky ode to nicotine in ‘Mañana’, to the upbeat trials of a capitalist ran-dating scene in ‘Kabaddi’. His music has been played on BBC Wales already twice this year, including his latest single, ‘Never Changed’.

‘Never Changed’ has a distinct laid-back feel, and drifts in the nostalgia and difficulties of the early-20’s, both in age and in date. Linking the poetic with visceral imagery, M. Yesekaon’s relaxed flow and production style offers well-defined textures and storytelling in a unique and definitive style. Taking inspiration from Loyle Carner, Mac Miller, Nix Northwest and Tyler, The Creator, his music varies and drives forward into 2024, with big things on the horizon.

Enlisting the expertise of Joseph Murray, Cardiff-native and film aficionado, the music video for the track has been completed to the highest standards, with experimental multi-person camera trickery and framed beautifully into the city of Cardiff. The colours offer a melting-pot of imagery and create an exciting atmosphere for the track. The Welsh Hip-Hop scene is growing and, as is embedded in Hip-Hop, evolving into something exciting and prosperous with M. Yesekaon carving out a path for himself within the noise.
