Nectar Woode - Nothing To Lose (EP)
24-year-old East London based singer-songwriter Nectar Woode shares her debut EP, which is scheduled for release on 23rd February via Communion.
Both the title track and EP opener, Nectar wanted to lead the way with a definitive statement. She says, “Nothing To Lose is about when everything’s gone wrong and you’ve been hurt by life, and how to get yourself out of it. To ‘turn a new leaf’ is what I’ve learned through maturity, with the help of friends & family - they’ve taught me how to keep going when times are the toughest. This song is a note to self to keep going, no matter how hard life gets sometimes.”
“Nothing To Lose” follows ‘God Talks Back’, which featured on the cover of Spotify’s RADAR: UK & IRELAND, and Fresh Finds UK upon its release, with support for Nectar continuing to pour in from BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Jess Izsatt), BBC 6 Music (Giles Peterson, Craig Charles), Apple Music 1 (Zane Lowe, Elton John), BBC 1Xtra, The Guardian, DIY, Clash and many more.
Nectar Woode honed and developed her sound as part of the supportive London community she has found. Having grown up in Milton Keynes as the daughter of Ghanaian amateur saxophonist father and an English artist/fashion cutter mother, she was exposed to a creative way of life from an early age. Listening to Erykah Badu and D’Angelo as a child, she took a deep dive into their music whilst at university and began playing in bands with friends covering their songs. Inspired to start writing her own material and after a move to London, she found herself immersed in a community that nurtured her jazz-infused sound, and helped her become the artist she is today.
Her debut single from the EP, ‘Good Vibrations’, like other songs from the forthcoming five track collection, was co-written and produced with Bad Sounds (Arlo Parks, Rose Gray) and is four minutes of pure positivity. It was named Jack Saunders ‘Next Wave’ on his BBC Radio 1 Future Artists show, with further support from Jess Iszatt, Elton John and Zane Lowe. Elsewhere, Nectar has hosted her own Guest Hour on Foundation FM, and recently found herself on a billboard in London’s Leicester Square, after Spotify put her on the cover of their Fresh Finds playlist.
Nectar continues to finesse her craft as a live performer having supported artists including Isaac Gracie, Alice Phoebe Lou, November Ultra and Sophie Faith in recent times, and selling out her own headline shows at The Lexington and The Slaughtered Lamb in London. Her next London headline show will take place at Omeara on 14th March - tickets are available from here.
