EMBAH sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I don’t know if it was watching MTV Base religiously as a kid, or my Mum playing a mix of reggae, lovers rock and RnB but there was always music in the house. Hip hop and RnB were the vibes I connected to most, which later led to me writing poetry and eventually music.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Kendrick is a standout. His mix of lyricism, storytelling and sonics are pretty much unmatched. Would love to work with Ghetts too because the atmosphere and pockets he finds are fantastic. But right now I’m open to working with most people as long as I like their vibe, holla at me.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

So I have a few singles dropping at the start of the year, the first one being "ALL ALONE" on Feb 4th which is about the rollercoaster love can be. A lot of the songs are kinda like anti-love songs. I think you’re going to love them. Then I’ve got a new sound that I’ve been developing that I want to start peppering out before summertime. Those sounds are the heavy hitters. Oh, and I’ve just dropped the video for SHOOK, so check that out Youtube.

4. How would you describe your sound?

My first EP, ‘What Are You Afraid Of?’, dropped back in September was a sound I like to call ‘Cinematic Hip-Hop’. A dark concoction of atmospheric.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Probably somewhere in between surpassing my record number of streams for SHOOK performing at the Five Points Project.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Have fun with it and try to be consistent. Especially if you haven’t released music yet. Once you’ve got a few songs under you’re belt, put them out gradually so you don’t feel like you’re a machine churning them out for the sake of “time”. Connect with other musicians and constantly experiment.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Yeah a bunch: Sey G, Eklipse, Nay Ellis, Lemzi.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

‘SOS’ by SZA, ‘What are You Afraid Of?’ by EMBAH, ‘ULTRA RARE:’ by Benjamin A.D, ‘Wilfred edits vol.3’ by Wilfred, ‘Hall & Nash 2’ by Westside Gunn.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Hangout with friends, travel and eat crisps. I really like crisps.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My phone, good vibes and some Schoolboy Q to get me hype.
