Gan Gemi x Underground Canopy - Reconsider Me (Single)

Gan Gemi (pronounced Gan-je-mee) is a young artist gaining a serious reputation as an arranger, producer and beatmaker to keep an eye on. The young musician has been honing his craft since an early age, creating soundscapes which incorporate elements of jazz, electronic, folk and hip hop into a heady brew which speaks directly to the soul. Following the release of his ‘Unravelling’ EP , he gained notable support from BBC 6 Music tastemakers Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova, Tom Ravenscroft, Huey Morgan, Deb Grant, Don Letts, Focus Beats (as well as Clash, NTS Radio, Rinse FM, Reprezent Radio and more), and sold out two headline live shows at Peckham Audio & Servant Jazz Quarters. He now joins forces with Parisian five piece instrumental Hip-Hop outfit Underground Canopy to release ‘Reconsider Me’ a reimagining of one of the EP’s standout tracks 'Consider Me’ via One House.

Harnessing Underground Canopy’s incredible chops and jazz sensibilities, Reconsider Me’ opens with a deluge of delicate and elegant instrumentation - eventually opening up as crisp shuffled drums and soulful keys add extra emphasis to Meti Bekele’s transcendent vocals.

On the track, Gan Gemi says: ‘"When you sit down to make music, the exciting thing is that it can go in any number of directions. As you commit to a mood or feeling, slowly those options and opportunities narrow. The best thing about collaboration is that someone can open up your ideas again and present them in a completely different light. Having Underground Canopy completely recontextualise the songwriting with their signature danceable and funky production is such a pleasure - it means the lyrics evoke a different set of feelings than they do in the original - the same words, but heard with a new meaning, which is why I think the title of “Reconsider Me” is very appropriate.

" Joined by a subtle horn section and elevational keys, this collaboration breathes a breath of fresh air into Gan Gemi’s original production.
