Cian Finn - What’s Next (Album)
Making a powerful return to the airwaves, Ireland’s finest Cian Finn is back with the release of his new album What’s Next. The album is a compelling offering that blends the raw authenticity of hip-hop and soul with the distinctive grooves of dub and dancehall. Infusing every groove with a strong wave of emotion, the album sees Cian at his absolute best creatively & musically.
Blessing the airwaves with a soundscape showcasing Ireland's ever-emerging sounds, this album sees Cian Finn at his most original. The twelve-track offering hosts introspective reflection, musings on the societal situations of this decade, and the communal celebration of music and its many forms. The album features noteworthy contributions from the esteemed spoken word artist - Lewis Kenny and a stalwart of the international reggae scene - Ras Tinny.
"It's a retrospective record for me, mostly with tracks like Grá Mór & All I Wanna Do" which look back on my formative and influential years in Galway. There is a lot covered throughout the project theme wise, and that is reflected sonically also, crossing sounds of hip-hop, dub, electronica, reggae, traditional Irish music and spoken word. It's also of course a project stamped in time by current events, which is very important to me. A snapshot of the present, for the future.”
Since releasing his debut album, This Applies in 2015, Cian Finn has cemented himself as one of Ireland's most important musicians, constantly innovating & consistently touring on an international schedule. Performing alongside The Wailers, Zion Train, The Skatalites and most recently, UB40 this summer - Cian has performed extensively solo and also - as the frontman of the now legendary Irish band - Intinn.
Cian Finn has blazed a heady musical trail that stretches around the world, originating from the west coast of Ireland and bringing him to the Americas, including Mexico City and Bogota (amongst various other S. American dates) across Europe and also to Japan, extensive Indian tours and dates in New Zealand / Australia.
For those who are perhaps less acquainted with Cian Finn - he has collaborated with iconic musicians and bands throughout his career, including Lamb, Max Romeo, Mungo's Hi-Fi and perhaps most noteworthy - the work with one of the pillars of Irish traditional music De Danann - which was a connection via his father, a founding member of the famous outfit.
Inspired by a wide array of musical influences, Cian Finn's artistry is infused with the raw authenticity of reggae and hip-hop, the creative wildness of electronica and dub while being infused with the grounding elements of folk and trad.
