Jamilah Barry - Full Circle (EP)

Bewitching and enigmatic in mood while kaleidoscope in sound and tonality, ‘Full Circle’ is a sonic journey through the depths of Jamilah Barry’s mind. Comprised of 10 tracks inspired by a series of personal and professional transformations over the past decade of Barry’s life, ‘Full Circle’ is a manifestation of the numerous ways life has been bearing fruit through an array of what she terms as “full circle” moments.

Executive produced by Rømme‘Full Circle’ features production from the likes of Marco Bernadis (Snoh AalegraVennaJorja SmithRadiant Children), P2J (Doja CatDaveJ Hus), MIDNIGHT PHUNKOddbox and Wlfy. Additionally present on the project are guest appearances from the Ivor Novello Award-winning jazz musician Yussef Dayes and acclaimed poet, author and director Caleb Femi.

Uninhibited by the barriers and conventions of genre, each song is a representation of Barry’s range as an auteur and storyteller. Pushing back against the expectations often levied on black women musicians. Across the project, Barry effortlessly leaps into the worlds of R&B, indie, electronica, bossa nova, jazz, drill and bedroom pop in a manner that’s experimental while remaining balanced in its execution.

Speaking on the project’s genesis, Barry said: “This project was a way for me to express myself in a very matter-of-fact way. Each song has a different personality and different mood. With this project, it feels like I’ve shed some skin”.

The arrival of ‘Full Circle’ comes on the heels of previously released singles ‘Give’'Fuck It (On-1)’ and ‘The Love Is Gone’. All of the preceding singles cumulatively received rapturous critical praise and support from press outlets such as BillboardAttitudeThe Observer New ReviewCOLORSCLASHOfficial ChartsRough TradeNew Wave MagazineRolling Stone AfricaRated R&BThe Voice NewspaperNoctis, YAMS and VIPER Magazine.

Marking her first full-length project since the release of 2020’s ‘Romance Me’ which spawned the beloved fan-favorite ‘Merlot’‘Full Circle’ is also the culmination of Jamilah’s newfound decision to once again pursue music full-time, after 7 years oscillating as one of the UK music scene’s best hidden secrets. Reaching a breaking point, Jamilah decided to take a chance on herself, quitting her most recent job in 2022.

Elaborating on the trials and challenges of juggling creative endeavors and pressure to sustain herself, Barry said: “Just before making this project, I remember working days and nights, coming home from the studio in the early hours of the morning, sleeping for 2-3 hours, and then going straight into a nine to five. I knew it would figure itself out, and around that time, I’d started to reconnect with producers and writers who I hadn’t seen in years”

This past May, Barry played dazzling sets at London’s Cross The Tracks festival in Brixton and Recess’ Dreamland Margate Weekender. To coincide with the release of ‘Full Circle’Barry will be embarking on a headline tour across the UKParisAmsterdam and The Netherlands in February 2025 with dates across North America and Canada to follow. The full list of dates will be announced at a later time.
