Nia Wyn - Bring The Rain (Single)
Following the announcement of her debut album ‘A Pleasure To Have In Class’, Welsh soul artist and producer Nia Wyn unveils the third single ‘Bring The Rain’. The self-released album will be released on 07/02/25, featuring production from Wyn herself, Duncan Pym, Blake Rhein (Durand Jones & The Indications) edbl and Evil Genius.
‘Bring The Rain’ is a Motown-inspired stomper taking aim at the perpetrators of the latest ‘culture wars’. In this track, Nia is pointing out that hate crime and discrimination that trans people face today are the same forces at play that threatened gay people for decades before. Despite the grave landscape painted in verses around UK government’s anti-refugee rhetoric and transphobia, the chorus urges us to ‘Bring The Rain’ to wash away the hatred and intolerance, hoping for better days in the UK for our most vulnerable citizens.
On the track, Nia said: ‘Just over 10 years ago a UKIP councillor blamed flooding in the UK on the legalisation of gay marriage’. That’s where the idea of ‘Bring The Rain’ came from - mocking the claims of these right-wing and ultra-religious bigots, but at the same time hoping for heavy cleansing rain that will leave Britain in a much more accepting and compassionate way. When producing this track, I really wanted to pay homage to the sounds of Motown given how much that Detroit sound has influenced my music.’
Welsh soul artist Nia Wyn has a talent for raw and powerful storytelling. Growing up in a small town in North Wales, Nia struggled with mental illness, isolation and confusion around her identity, taking solace in old records she found and playing guitar in her room. Inspired by the soul that came out of Philadelphia, Memphis and Detroit in the 60s and 70s, Nia writes, produces and sings songs about modern issues: being queer, hard times young people face in the UK, mental health and neurodivergence.
‘A Pleasure To Have In Class’ is an impressive retro soul offering that brings Wyn’s artistry and talent to the forefront in the soul revival scene, showcasing her production style, intense love for 1960s and 1970s music and aptitude for raw yet mature story-telling abilities. The album title is a nod to the school report cards and experiences of anxious (and undiagnosed neurodivergent) children of the millennial generation, and covers a wide range of themes from Nia’s own experience of being diagnosed autistic as an adult, current challenges faced by the queer and trans community, the so-called ‘culture wars’ in the western world, to reaching a sobriety anniversary and the complex feelings it can bring.
Nia’s prior achievements include supporting Paul Weller on his sold-out UK tour, performing at Glastonbury Festival, Latitude Festival and Lytham Festival, and sync placements on FIFA 21 and Shondaland's Station 19. Her music has seen support across radio with plays from Jack Saunders (BBC R1) and Craig Charles (6 Music) and editorial playlisting (Spotify New Music Friday UK, Retro Soul, Soul 'N' The City and Fresh Finds Jazz to name a few), amassing beyond 4 million streams across DSPs. A UK and EU tour is being planned for the album release in September 2025, as well as in-store performances alongside the vinyl run via Republic of Music in February 2025.
