Shehxna - Jaded Love (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Shehxna is a 21 year old independent UK R&B/Pop singer/ songwriter, born and raised in North London.

The British Sri Lankan singer is a triple threat, she trained at the famous Italia Conti Performing arts school. Her music influences are R&B, Hip Hop and Gospel.

The songstress made a bold move to the United States where she is pursuing her music career and obtaining a degree at University. The singer is currently bi-costal, making sure she feeds both her UK and US supporters. 

Her latest release “Jaded Love” is a smooth downtempo track with a mellow yet soulful atmosphere. Jaded Love is a laid back groove, it's perfect for a late night listen, evoking feelings of nostalgia and a bitter sweet sense of romance. Jaded Love captures the essence of vulnerability and heartache. 

Shehxna sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

To be honest, all I’ve ever known is singing. I remember singing from the age of four and I never stopped.  I grew up training at Italia conti performing arts school, vocal training, playing piano and the drums.

I never had to question the career that I wanted to pursue. I always knew that would be music for me and I’ve been chasing that dream ever since.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Dave, Jorja Smith, Fridayy, Partynextdoor, Maverick city, Summer Walker, Jasmine Sullivan and Sza.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I just dropped my latest single Jaded Love, it’s out now on all platforms Nov 19th. It’s an RnB/ soul song.

A feature is on the way so look out for that.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I would say it’s a mixture of the rnb/ soul/ gospel/ pop.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I was at school and I got a call that I would be performing at BBC Radio 1’s big weekend festival 2024 in Luton. I flew back to London to perform and it was such a dream hearing the lyrics of lover girl being sung back to me.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Don’t lose your faith. Trust yourself, the process and God’s timing. It will happen and you have to believe that it’s already written and done. You just have to put in the work, keep believing and god will meet you there and make it happen.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Fridayy album.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Content creating, going gym and School. 

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Tea, Oversized hoodie, Not an item but, I always pray before I record.
