There are two different creative mediums that cross paths. Two paths that flow together in synchronicity is fashion and music. Time and time again I’ve seen artist being invited into fashion spaces and vice versa. I’ve always wanted to go to a fashion presentation and NOM!NAL London’s RED Thursday did not disappoint. On arrival I was escorted by the wonderful Krisztina (co-founder of NOM!NAL) over to Ace (BackRoad Gee’s manager) who kindly invited me to the show. This was really kind of her as I came by myself and didn’t know what to expect, I was filled with excitement and anxiety. This kind gesture melted away my anxiety instantly. We were also given a playing card the king of diamonds which I think was rather fitting for the occasion I must say. We used this to get a free drink which was absolutely delicious. I then sat down on the comfy sofa next to an American Actor called Shanin who told me stories about her job I was intrigued, she was hilarious too. She said I looked stylish and was convinced I was part of the fashion world which I proceeded to tell her I wasn’t. “Well you look like you belong here, you definitely belong in fashion world”. This was followed by photographer @missionjournal taking photos of me eyebrows raised as I posed straight away without direction. “Are you a model in the show?” honestly after all these kind words my head could barely fit out of the door but I digress.

There was a real sense of camaraderie and community that filled the air Krisztina and Sean have really created something special here and it was beautiful to witness.

The highlight of the night was Nominal London’s fashion show and presentation of their much-anticipated Drop 2, held in the atmospheric Maroto Club. When the fashion presentation started there was whooping, clapping and whispers of ‘Yes, I love that’ and ‘I want to buy that’. We were entertained by the sweet sounds of DJ D'wante Navire on entry and throughout the night. He spun crowd-favourite tracks, keeping the dance floor packed as attendees celebrated a night of fashion, music, and culture.

The collection introduced festive outfits with a twist, featuring tailored British-inspired designs crafted from 100% wool Scottish tartan in collaboration with guest designer Clô Lopes and designer Simba Craig. Attendees were treated to an immersive showcase blending cutting-edge designs with bold, urban influences. The runway was brought to life by a diverse cast of models who perfectly embodied the brand’s ethos of inclusivity and innovation.

The show concluded with an electrifying live performance by acclaimed Afro-drill & Rap sensation, BackRoad Gee, who had the crowd on their feet with his high-energy set. His powerful performance added an unforgettable crescendo to the fashion-forward evening. He gave an energising performance and I was up on my feet singing and bopping along, I especially enjoyed Nyege Lewa feat. Ms Banks.

BackRoad Gee was wearing a casual orange-beige wool jacket to his performance as the first piece of a collaboration collection between him and Nominal London. This performance was the launching step of the collab capsule collection. This fashion-music collab will include an elegant suit representing rap music and African roots, an unusual hat and more pieces designed together with Backroad Gee to reflect the merger of UK fashion and UK Rap. This capsule collection to be launched at LFW in February 2025. Special thanks to Sascha Brooke, artists relations manager and fashion stylist known within the fashion industry for styling Axel Blake, models,Backroad Gee and many more.
