Planky makes a triumphant return to the spotlight with a brand new single, as he continues to build on his legacy of legendary collaborations.

The UK producer was last on the radar a year ago, when he joined forces with rap progeny supergroup, 2nd Generation Wu, for the anthemic Rescue Me. His latest effort lands a little closer to home though, as he reunites with two UK greats - Dynamite MC and Harry Shotta.

Planky first worked with them on his 2021 track, Soul Plane, which also featured Foreign Beggars alumni, P4VAN. Now the duo look set to repeat their earlier success with Mic Check, Mic Check, a dizzying barrage of wordplay backed up with Planky’s infectiously rhythmic production.

Dynamite MC and Harry Shotta are two artists who need no introduction, having long ago established themselves as formidable rappers, with an ability to make the complex seem effortless. Mic Check, Mic Check is a prime example of their capabilities, as Dynamite MC begins to obliterate his verse from the very first bar, before Harry Shotta raises the bar even higher with a verse bursting with quotables. The track is tied up nicely with a hook from Dynamite that pushes the sound into a party vibe without sacrificing any of its prestige.

Planky’s production continues with this theme, thanks to an upliftingly funk-tinged beat that gives Dynamite and Shotta the perfect backdrop for their lyrical antics. Combine all that with an energised stab of piano courtesy of Dre Keys, and you have all the ingredients for a bona fide classic.
