SiR - HEAVY (Album)
Inglewood, CA trailblazer SiR and his stunning new album HEAVY - out now with Top Dawg Entertainment via The Orchard.
With heavy-weight features from Anderson .Paak, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, Scribz Riley and Ty Dolla $ign, this album feels like one of the hottest crossovers so far as SiR regains his position as R&B’s brightest export crashing into wider consciousness.
Alongside a stunning cinematic video for lead track “YOU”, I’d love to discuss a potential online feature - see further detail below.
With HEAVY, the 2x GRAMMY-nominated creative and R&B vocalist delivers a spellbinding body of work, serving as a poignant reflection of his recovery, mental health and physical transformation while offering up some of the most vulnerable self-expression we’ve seen from him.
The 16-track album also boasts collaborations with some of the most culturally resonant artists in the world, with Anderson .Paak’s vibrant touch on “POETRY IN MOTION” leading as standout, HEAVY shifts into pure musical bliss; from the warm, retro-fitted “KARMA” ft. Isaiah Rashad and the intimacy of “LIFE IS GOOD” ft. Scribz Riley to the psychedelic “IGNORANT” ft. Ty Dolla $ign and the hazy “I’M NOT PERFECT” ft. elusive fellow TDE affiliate Ab-Soul. A testament to his eclectic artistry flourishing with atmosphere and intent, SiR continues to underline himself as one of the most important and innovative artists flourishing on both sides of the Atlantic.
Speaking on the album’s origins, SiR mentions: “I think 2020 was the worst year of my life. I went through addiction issues, went through a relationship problem. Me and my wife were about to get a divorce, and we had a baby. It was the most pressure I had ever felt in my life.”
He adds: “My life was in shambles, and the music was coming out phenomenal. I was surprised. But then, once I got to the other side of my problems, it started to get even better. That's where the album's coming from. It's coming from a place where you're going to see both sides.”
Striking a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2017, alongside Kendrick Lamar, SZA, ScHoolboy Q and many more, SiR quickly earned stripes with a plethora of highly acclaimed releases including his stunning album November and breakthrough track “Hair Down” ft. Kendrick Lamar, amassing well over 133M streams on Spotify alone and 41M across the cinematic official video. Alongside a standout performance of “John Redcorn” across COLORSXSTUDIOS, the California native delivered his most recent project Chasing Summer, elevating to blazing new heights with features from international superstars like Lil Wayne, Smino, Sabrina Claudio and Jill Scott. With further co-signs and collaborative credits coming from Stevie Wonder to Ginuwine, SiR’s unapologetic and technical approach marks him as one of the genre’s standout global talents.
