Miranda Joan - Where Did You Go (Ash Walker Remix) (Single)
“Where Did You Go (Ash Walker Remix)” is the new single from Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and musician Miranda Joan. The release features a dub rework from London-based producer Ash Walker alongside the original track, taken from Miranda’s 2023 album ‘Overstimulated’ – out 3rd May on ‘marinara red’ limited 200 press vinyl.
‘Overstimulated’ sees Miranda Joan taking stock of those she has loved, lost, and felt held by in the tumultuous years since starting the journey to creating the album. Overall, underpinning every aspect of the LP is friendship; the beauty and importance of which is amplified on “Where Did You Go” – A song about losing a friend too soon. Immortalised as Miranda sings “It breaks my heart to hear that you have left / Now I hope your soul can go and find some peace” is the duality of grief; the loss felt and the simultaneous solace those left behind long for in hoping someone has found a place to rest.
Reworking the track, Londoner Ash Walker creates space with a smattering of dub rhythms; “from the moment I first heard Miranda’s project I was hooked – silky, soulful vocals laced over buttery beats that sit together effortlessly”, he adds. Finding layers in the original’s production – which comes courtesy of multi-instrumentalist and bass extraordinaire CARRTOONS – Ash allows for Miranda’s vocals and searching questions to echo across the landscape of the track.
The remix follows the release of Ash Walker’s acclaimed album ‘Astronaut’ (Night Time Stories). The LP features an eclectic mix of musicians and vocalists including Lou Rhodes, Yazz Ahmed, Joe Armon-Jones, Amp Fiddler, Laville, Sly5thAve, Oscar Jerome and Denitia, gaining attention from BBC 6Music, Clash Magazine, Treble and the dub-master Don Letts.
Co-produced by CARRTOONS, ‘Overstimulated’ features offerings from Sly5thAve, Hailey Niswanger, Jake Sherman, Kristine Kruta aka Lil Kruta (The Eagles), Clairo keys player Danae Greenfield and Grammy-winning bassist Ben Williams.
The album has seen support from the likes of NPR, Nemone (BBC 6Music), Deb Grant & Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music), CassKidd (BBC 1Xtra), Francesca Harding (KCRW), Wonderland, Tony Minvielle (Jazz FM), BBC Focus Beats, Boba Fatt (Soho Radio), John Kennedy (Radio X), Consequence, EARMILK, Exclaim!, Stereofox and CBC, as well as playlisting on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds R&B.
Currently on tour with The Killers and fresh from performances with Kylie Minogue, Orchestre National de Jazz at Montreal Jazz Festival and with CARRTOONS at MTL Jazz Festival, Miranda has performed on national tours, played sold-out and headline shows at well-known New York venues, provided backing vocals for the likes of Shawn Mendes, Lorde, and Andy Grammar, and joined Sly5thAve at Montréal Jazz Festival with the Orchestre National de Jazz.
