Live: Boys II Men @ OVO Arena
We had the pleasure of attending Boyz II Men’s sold out OVO arena shows.
The show kicked off with Damage, British R&B boy band who achieved success in the 1990s with eleven hit singles, including four top 10 successes on the UK Singles Chart. The group was energetic, powerful, synchronised and enthralling, with moves and attitude they warmed up the crowd.
Main support was Brian Mcknight, American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, radio personality, and multi-instrumentalist. He is recognised for his strong head voice, high belting range, and melisma. One of the most underrated male voices in my opinion. He opened up the show on the notes of “In the air tonight” creating the perfect atmosphere. His way of entertaining the crowd was charming and dynamic, he made us jump back to the years 2000s with all his big hits like “Back at one”, “Anytime”, “The only one for me”. He also performed a tribute to the big voices of R&B like Whitney Huston, Prince, Michael Jackson leaving us speechless with his wide vocal range, and made us sing our lungs out.
Boyz II Men were the stars of the night, American vocal harmony group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, best known for emotional ballads and a cappella harmonies. Formed in 1985, they have been a trio composed of baritone Nathan Morris alongside tenors Wanyá Morris (no relation)and Shawn Stockman since 2003. Shawn showed up with his beautiful red Gibson and the crowd exploded. They amazed us with their perfect effortless harmonies from the beginning to the end, performing beautiful songs been in the charts like “Water runs dry”, “4 seasons of loneliness”, “on bended knees” but also “End of the road” and “I’ll make love with you” on this last throwing romantic roses to the crowd, without missing a note.
The energetic Wanya entertained us with his moves and fantastic voice, truly one of the most amazing voices of our times. Together they gave us their own twist on famous songs like “American Woman” or “Locked out of heaven” with Nathan on the bass and Shawn on the guitar, another way to show us their talent. They ended the night with a song that everyone has been waiting for, “MotownPhilly”. We were all dancing like there was no tomorrow, celebrating an amazing concert and performances. All the acts of the night were celebrating over 30 years of career and we were proud and honoured to be part of it, a night to remember.
