Son Of Sam ft: Masta Ace + Large Professor - Come A Long Way (Jehst Remix) (Single)

UK hip-hop band Son of Sam made some right noise with 2017’s ‘Cinder Hill’ album. Made up of rhythm section specialists John and Joe Sam (Leroy Hutson & Incognito), Richard Halligan on keys and sax, and the perpetual producer/remixer Tom Caruana (DITC, MF Doom, The Beatles via Wu-Tang Clan and any UK rapper worth their salt), ‘Cinder Hill’ received widespread praise; played across the board on BBC 6 Music, and getting its dues in DJ Magazine, The Wire, Bandcamp, and out-the-box outlets such as Sky Sports’ Soccer AM and BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends shows.

A live hip-hop experience serenading the likes of J-Live, Sadat X, Guilty Simpson, Prince Po, Quelle Chris, John Robinson and many more, a favourite from ‘Cinder Hill’ gets a 2024 freshen up in the form of the ‘Mug Shots’ series, where prominent players are charged with remixing the back catalogue of the home of Son of Sam, Tea Sea Records.

With remixes of Boog Brown, Caruana's 'Brewing Up'/'Strange Planet' projects and more on his hit list, UK hip-hop legend Jehst is in the 'Mug Shots' hotseat and begins with an update of the first act of 'Cinder Hill' - the classic retrospective tale 'Come A Long Way', from certified hip-hop icons Masta Ace and Large Professor. Taking the long road travelled, the reassuring retrospective taking on the crossroads of life sees Jehst come through with a quietly rousing use of seesawing strings, fluttering at palm tree pace so that Ace and Extra P can keep on with their cruise control reminisce.
