Afterz - Soul Searching / Palme D'or (Double Single)

London-based music project Afterz have unveiled their debut double single, "Soul Searching / Palme D'or", on the burgeoning dance music label Club Djembe. The release marks a significant milestone for Afterz, showcasing their eclectic blend of electronic and organic sounds, meticulously crafted between London, New York and Lagos.

"Soul Searching", the lead track from the release, features the soulful vocals of R&B artist Azekel, intertwining with ethereal production that incorporates elements of Latin, Afro and jazz music. Adding depth to the composition is the award-winning saxophonist Ikaey Asanga, known for his work with acclaimed artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido.

On the flip side, "Palme D'or" takes listeners on a cinematic journey, weaving together hard-hitting rap vocals with pulsating drums and percussions. The track exudes an industrial sound that maintains both intensity and dancefloor appeal.

Accompanying the release is a visually captivating music video for "Soul Searching", filmed in the desert and directed by Blaize Fobbe (Jack Harlow, SiR) and Marlon Webster Paine (Enfants Riches Déprimés). The video serves as a fitting visual counterpart to the song's introspective themes.

Commenting on the inspiration behind "Soul Searching", Afterz share, “The song is about the moment when you’ve finally arrived in front of what you’ve been searching for in life, whatever that means to you personally, and the feeling just before you are about to embrace it.”

Azekel adds, “We made ‘Soul Searching’ after coming back from Ghana. Working with Afterz is a way for me to express a different side of myself – one that incorporates Afro styles and disco/electro. It’s building on the Afro disco sound I’ve been working on. It’s a new sound, a new vibe and identity working with Afterz.”

Led by multidisciplinary producers Troy. and Très Chill, Afterz are supported by a diverse network of collaborators spanning music, design, photography and film. Their debut release serves as a tantalising preview of what’s to come and the innovative sonic landscapes yet to be explored by the duo.
