Cosmo’s Midnight - Stop Thinking Start Feeling (Album)

After teasing the project over the past 12 months, Cosmo’s Midnight today share their highly anticipated third studio album, Stop Thinking Start Feeling.

Picking up almost immediately following the release of Yesteryear in 2020, Stop Thinking Start Feeling was written over the backdrop of almost three years of writing and experimentation in Australia, Los Angeles and London. Making this record while traveling and collaborating put Cosmo’s Midnight in a creative mindset that was incredibly liberating. While having a break from touring they conceived their new album as a result of being able to simply play around with style, free of any expectation – industry, personal, or otherwise.

A project that became a therapeutic vessel as it has been a new chapter of creativity, Stop Thinking Start Feeling channels a bright horizon of unknowns: post-isolation travel, distance from loved ones, a return to touring and a resurgence of energy.

Stop Thinking Start Feeling is, in its purest form, an invitation to escape and lose yourself in the music. Taking inspiration from genre trailblazers and innovators such as Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, Chaka Khan and Rufus; as well as masters of melody and world building like Fleetwood Mac, Cosmo’s Midnight construct an atmosphere that celebrates music at its emotive core. Moreover, the attraction and appeal of this emotion that led Cosmo’s Midnight to embark on their artistic journey in the first place.

Cosmo’s Midnight on the record: “Our 3rd album is an invitation to be in touch with your emotional side. To get lost in the moment, in the music, not overthinking, not-self aware, not hyper-critical but being completely immersed in the experience. It’s a celebration of why we started writing music in the first place, a period of innocence where all other responsibilities and ambitions were sidelined and we tunnel-visioned on the pursuit of writing music that simply made us feel good.”

Featuring a stellar lineup for feature artists from Tkay Maidza, Forest Claudette, KUČKA, Franc Moody and more, Stop Thinking Start Feeling celebrates the duo’s immense talents as not only songwriters and producers, but confidantes to their music community, putting their feature vocalists centre stage to shine. The album’s latest single exemplifies this in ‘Eating Heartache’ where alternative pop artist spill tab is effortlessly enmeshed in the Cosmo’s Midnight sonic universe.

Cosmo’s Midnight on ‘Eating Heartache’: “We were lucky enough to get a hold of Claire while she was in Sydney on tour. I feel like it was so hard to even write music because we were killing so much time just hanging out and getting to know each other. In the last couple hours we just were flying and wrote 'Eating Heartache' so quickly. It was a different style of music than she would typically write over but she came to it so naturally. Her lyricism and immense vocal work and production is unrivalled. She was literally putting on a masterclass of production and arrangement right in front of us, it was incredible.”

Stop Thinking Start Feeling is the follow up to their ARIA-nominated sophomore album Yesteryear, following on from their critically acclaimed debut album, What Comes Next. With numerous Gold and Platinum certified records to their name, the duo have collaborated with artists such as KUČKA, BAYNK, Yung Bae and many more, culminating in a whopping half a billion streams across their entire catalogue. Beyond their own music, the pair have worked with an incredible line-up of talent, having produced for global superstars BTS on ‘Fly To My Room’ and NCT Dream’s single ‘Breathing’, as well as remixes for the likes of Flume, HONNE, Goldlink and more.

Stop Thinking Start Feeling asks the listener to do one thing: feel. This is an album that urges one to switch off the critical part of their brain, instead being led by each pulsating beat, vibrant progression and beautifully hypnotic beat pattern. Tapping into the innocence that this sort of music made them feel as young music fans, Cosmo’s Midnight returned to the sounds of their youth in reinventing that feeling for a new generation of audience.
