LARA’ ft: Ambré - Like Dat (Single)

Texas-based singer/songwriter LARA’ allows listeners in for an intimate view into her world with kaleidoscopic new single ‘Like Dat’ ft. Ambré. Produced by BLK ODYSSY, the song is released via EARTHCHILD/EMPIRE.

From its beginning moments, ‘Like Dat’ is all enveloping; its richly layered instrumental shimmers and bubbles, creating a dreamlike backdrop for LARA’ to relay a narrative of lust-filled romance. LARA’’s crisp vocal tone gently cuts through the misty instrumental as she utilises a conversational, rap-adjacent delivery in the song’s verses and hook, sounding assured and confident when owning her sexuality. New Orleans native Ambré’s delicately sung guest verse furthers feelings of ecstasy as her vocals softly levitate over the jazzy, seductive beat.

Speaking on the song, LARA’ says: "I wrote this song while I was in the studio with BLK ODYSSY, this was after Pushaman and Addiction and I wanted to give my audience some insight as to why I was so hooked on this person described in those songs. This song represents that heavy physical chemistry you have with someone that has you reminiscing on past encounters — I wanted to find a way to put that feeling into a song. After I recorded my verse I was like I’d love to hear Ambré on this and was so excited when that became real because she brought the perfect essence to the track. I’m beyond excited for this song to be out."

LARA’ is an artist that cites the likes of generational voices including Erykah BaduAmy WinehouseLauryn Hill and Ella Ftizgerald as inspirations for her own soul-bearing, emotionally captivating work. As a long term collaborator with the multi-genre fusing BLK ODYSSYLARA’’s voice can be heard across their catalogue, adding a sense of depth and emotional gravitas to the critically acclaimed albums BLK VINTAGE and DIAMONDS & FREAKS. In 2023 LARA’ joined the band on tour, performing alongside the group and as a support act during their sold out ‘DIAMONDS & FREAKS TOUR’. LARA’ enchanted audiences all across the US & Europe, including a spellbinding performance at their sold out debut in London playing at Hoxton Hall. More recently, she has landed writing credits for North Carolina rap elite Rapsody on her fourth studio album Please Don’t Cry which released earlier this month.

LARA’ uses her experiences as a mother, partner and Black woman navigating contemporary life to inform her musical output, offering confessional, stylised and emotionally complex works. With spirituality playing a huge role in her life and creativity, LARA’ seeks to uplift through her art and spread messages of acceptance of oneself and others.

After spending much of last year writing and featuring on tracks by the likes of RapsodyBLK ODYSSYand DendeLARA’ has since been focusing on her own work which she has begun rolling out, with January’s single ‘Pushaman’ giving an insight into what’s to come.

Like Dat’ is a highly addictive, visceral new addition into the LARA’ catalogue that will whet listeners appetites for what’s to come for the rest of the year and beyond.
