Nick Marks - Cinematic Chromatics Vol. II (EP)

After the release of his acclaimed debut EP in 2023, New York artist Nick Marks follows up with his second EP, Cinematic Chromatics Vol. II.

Cinematic Chromatics is a three-part EP series where Marks “seamlessly fuses elements of jazz, neo-soul, and electronica into a mesmerizing symphony that defies conventions.” (Earmilk).

The trilogy gracefully moves between various aural mood-boards and showcases Marks’ musical universe, which has been described as “a twisted jazz fusion of orchestrated funk bruk electronica - dare I say, of Herbie Hancock proportions” (Gerry Hectic, You And The Music).

Marks continues the journey from Vol. I and takes listeners to a new world within his sonic universe for Vol. II. He returns to his roots in melding neo-soul, jazz, and hip-hop beats into four new sonic narratives. The Cinematic Chromatics trilogy is born out of a love and passion for bringing together elements that satisfy the ear, move the body and connect to the heart. It speaks to the complex layers that intertwine in life. For Marks, writing music is a journey in how to best make sense of living among contradictions in our everyday life. This is how Marks hears music in his head, as a synthesis of all styles he loves. He has turned these ideas into a record where he shares with listeners and invites them to bring their own meaning and experiences.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Marks grew up among that city’s innovative musical scene, absorbing the mix of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, funk, latin and hip-hop influences. In 2016, he moved to New York on a one way ticket to test himself on the world stage. He quickly immersed himself in the melting pot of dynamic artistic experimentation and cross-pollination in his new home city. Listeners can already experience these influences as poignant threads throughout his debut EP Cinematic Chromatics Vol. I.

Vol. II is another example of Marks joining the dots between two disparate paradigms of his artistry: that of the concert music/film scoring world, and the underground scenes in which jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul and electronica blend together.  The EP features already released singles: Touché HombreBack To Life (feat. Doron Lev), Between Gigs.
