The buzz continues to build for Liverpool rising rapper KOJ who releases new single ‘A ROADMAN’S TALE OF HOME’. The new release continues to tease KOJ’s forthcoming EP VILLAIN WITH A CONSCIENCE.
KOJ says: “This song explores what “home” means to somebody like me. Not just home in the physical sense, but the people who make you feel at home - home in a spiritual sense. Life is about so much more than where you’re from, where you live. It’s a strange thing - being a mixed heritage working class man in the North West of England with a variety of life experiences and so I wanted to touch on that and remind the people that they are not alone in this fight we call life. What’s home really? We are about to find out”
Produced by acclaimed UK Hip-Hop producer, Joe Buhdha (Klashnekoff, Estelle, London Posse) and Bakes (Can’t Stop Won’t Stop) and mixed and mastered by Mike Cave (KRS One, Gil Scott-Heron, Professor Green, JP Cooper and The Coral), KOJ says: “It was important to give a salute to old school Hip Hop on this record. It suits the topic perfectly as I explore themes of identity, perception, power, class and belonging. All themes which are heavily aligned with Hip Hop. I was privileged to work with acclaimed British Hip Hop legend Joe Buhdha on this record. I knew he would be the perfect to produce this record, with subject matter so raw and poetic, he has the ideal skill set to bring the music to life. Watching him work was an unreal experience. I’d never seen somebody construct a record using his method before, truly inspiring”.
KOJ’s recent single ‘A REMINDER’ (released in March 2024) received playlist support from BBC Radio 1Xtra, Spotify, Amazon Music, Clash, KISS FM amongst others. Alongside this, KOJ launched ‘THIS IS NOT A DRILL’, a demand-driven project enlisting KOJ’s rising fanbase, #ThePeoplesTribe, who voted for their favourite tracks presented in this collection. A visual for the favourite pick, ‘Chosen One’, was also created during his live set at Svara Radio in Liverpool.
Earlier this year, KOJ headlined the Liverpool leg of the BBC Radio 1Xtra Touchdown Tour with DJ Target, alongside performances at Liverpool Sound City and Dot to Dot with his live band. He goes on to perform at Latitude this July, as well as a headline show in his hometown of Liverpool.
Since showcasing his lyrical dexterity on his debut track, ‘Blue Notes’, KOJ has collected support from tastemakers and cultivated his musical family by impressing industry and artists alike, collaborating heavily with producer Jakebob, hitting the festival circuit with slots at Boomtown and Kendal Calling, and releasing music with Manchester Hip-Hop collective The Mouse Outfit.
A true multifaceted talent, KOJ continues to rise in his music, all whilst launching OzMOB - his creative community of visual and music artists. A singular artist quickly developing a reputation as the future of UK rap, KOJ’s all-around artistic ability indelibly marks him as a significant ‘one to watch’ in the creative spheres.
His EP later this year combines his raw skill with a fresh and authentic version of UK Rap, promising to elevate this prodigy into the the orbit of the top tier of talent coming out of the UK.
