Nia Chennai - So Pretty When You Cry (Single)

London-based R&B singer, songwriter and artist Nia Chennai shares her new single ‘So Pretty When You Cry’, out everywhere now.

Off the back of the release of her debut EP ‘Diary Is A Waste Of Paper’ last Autumn, Nia returns with a playfully upbeat slice of R&B heaven, with hints of 2000’s pop and reggae influences. Lyrically, the track explores making light of that first encounter with an ex-partner.

Nia says, “I made this song by staying truthful and relatable in my lyrics as I always do. It is key for me. I had recently encountered an ex and wanted to make light of it. I had also been listening to Lily Allen - "Smile" and Lauryn Hill - "That Thing" so I knew I wanted trumpets and something a bit upbeat. I was heavily inspired by the reggae elements and since I’m half Caribbean. It’s always nice to pay homage to my culture.

When your ex comes crawling back, don’t take them! You should always want more for yourself. If you want love, find someone that is loyal, respectful and brings you peace.”

Nia’s music has been praised for its raw and relatable themes, exploring topics such as love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Her powerful vocals have allowed her to create a unique sound that captures the hearts of her listeners.

A rising artist on the UK R&B scene, Nia’s music effortlessly combines soulful melodies with honest and introspective lyrics. Born in South London and raised in Surrey, Nia’s musical journey began at a young age, where she was exposed to a variety of genres from her family’s diverse musical tastes. With a deep passion for music, Nia began writing her own music and posting covers of her musical influences on her social media platforms, whilst drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and the world around her.

As Nia Chennai continues to grow, she hopes to inspire others with her music and connect with people from all walks of life. Whether performing live or in the studio, Nia’s passion and dedication to her craft are evident in every note. Keep an eye out for this rising star.
