Kursa & Sepia - Tune In (EP)

Kursa & Sepia team up on collaborative EP ‘Tune In’ released through Infernal Sounds July 19th.

Infernal Sounds record label based in Stoke on Trent is delighted to announce the EP which see’s the two 140 heavy weights fuse their talents in collaboration to create unstoppable dubstep bangers on this very special release.

Kursa and Sepia first met in Denver, and hadn’t made any music together since then. During lockdown they lived closer together and so decided to embark on a new project. Through these meetings and new geographical ties, ‘Tune In’ was born. Kursa says ‘The EP is a solid reflection of a snapshot in time that we spent together in Bristol. Many of the tracks represent our sometimes self destructive behaviour, which we think many could relate too’.

Merging all the best bits of slimy, distorted bass and heapings of fluttery harmonics, ‘Tune In’ brings us otherworldly sounds; pairing industrial heavy handedness with sprinkles of light touch melody laced throughout.

The EP ‘Tune In’ is made up of four tracks, and kicking it off is the aptly named title track with the same name. ‘Tune in’ invites us to step up in the dance with clever break beats and wonderfully toe curling, squelchy dubstep bass to make your hairs stand on end. Gun fingers at the ready, because this one’s about to go off. Mixing it up, the pair use their 140 roots to allow us all a glance into their wholly futuristic vision of what’s to come.

The second track on the EP, ‘Woke Up, Chose Violence’ starts minimalistically, enticing us with a light footed foreplay before launching into a bassline that can only be described as criminally satisfying. Sure to have you nodding your head like a mad man, ‘Woke Up, Chose Violence’ sets itself apart as a tune that edges you towards electronic euphoria. It creeps up on you, engulfs you, spits you out, then gets you going all over again. ‘Woke Up, Chose Violence’ is my personal favourite from the EP, and the one I’m most looking forward to hearing being mixed over the course of the year and beyond.

The third track on the ‘Tune In’ EP, ‘Unrefined Behaviour’ does what it says on the tin. This tune will make you wanna throw your body about to its infectious bass, and possibly call in sick on Monday. The tune has been described by the label as ‘Taking no prisoners’ and ‘a complete stomper’. Kursa and Sepia combined display their immense technical talent in the splicing of the track, created using cutting SFX and heavy distortion.

Track four ‘Sleepin’ starts with reverberated percussion before sliding into a breakbeat dub that’s essentially junglist in its approach. It paces itself like a snake winding through the grass, stalking its prey. Slow, tentative towards the build, it amounts to an intense standoff that will be sure to leave the crowd gasping for more.

On the album art, Sepia mentions that it was inspired by the pairs ‘go-to’ items when working together. They would surround themselves with these things whilst making the EP. Sepia told me ‘We did have a few other people who were interested in collaborating with us on the project but we decided we wanted full creative control. From the art work, to the music. The items included on the album art are all items that are personal to our friendship over the years, and the way that our music has naturally come together. We used to wake up and bond over shin ramen and millions of cigarettes. That’s how the EP came together, just me and Kas being absolute geeks and really good friends’.

Kursa says ‘The EP encapsulates so many different sides of us and to have Infernal Sounds humour our style has been a real honour. This project has been meticulously put together and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. The insane work from s470 on the artwork is just crazy, with all of its detail being so personal to us. It feels great to finally have it out!’

‘Tune In’ is released July 19th and is available to stream across all music streaming platforms. Keep your eyes peeled for the pair, who are currently making waves across the country.
