Juls ft: Masego - Perspective (Single)
Having occupied the same musical universe as outliers of the scene, GRAMMY nominated producer Juls calls on Jamaican-born multi-hyphenate Masego for new single ‘Perspective’. With both their fan bases desperately urging the artists to work together over the years, ‘Perspective’ is the long-awaited answer to their prayers that is bound to exceed all expectations.
First coming across one another back in 2016, Masego posted a tweet some years later saying “I wanna work with @JulsOnIt this year”, sparking a frenzy amongst their fans which never dwindled.
‘Perspective’ unites both mind and body as Juls’ irresistibly moving, jazzy instrumental combines with Masego’s soulful croon and thoughtful messaging, resulting in a track that is equal parts carnal and spiritual. In his lyrics, Masego ruminates on the importance of gaining a wider worldview via cultural exchange, in this instance gathering insight from his romantic interest.
The track follows on from Juls’ recent releases: April’s Odeal assisted ‘Hold You Down’ which entered the Billboard Chart and UK Official Afrobeats Chart, as well as his sun-soaked June release ‘Best Interest’ featuring JayO. With collaboration being a cornerstone of his career from the beginning, Julscontinues to work with a range of upcoming and established international artists, illustrating his role as an imperative connector of sounds and scenes across the Black diaspora.
Masego is a singular talent who blends various influences to create a sound that is refreshingly unique. As a trained jazz musician, he coined the ‘Trap House Jazz’ genre to describe the amalgamation of sounds and influences found in his music, as he describes it to be “where ignorance meets elegance.” With a stellar catalogue of music dating back to 2015, he is most notably known for 2017 release ‘Navajo’ and the inescapable ‘Tadow’ ft. FKJ, taken from his 2018 Lady Lady album.
Juls’ forthcoming releases arrive at a special time in the artist’s career, as he takes stock of his impact and influence over his decade long career, which has seen him as a key figure in the movement that has exported the sounds of Africa worldwide. Juls has collaborated with everyone ranging from titans of the African industry such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Mr Eazi and Wande Coal, avant gard UK rap acts including Kojey Radical, Sam Wise, Knucks and Che Lingo and everyone in between. Juls’ diversity in sound and collaborators can be witnessed across his extensive catalogue of music which includes the LP’s Leap Of Faith, Colour and his official debut album, 2021’s Sounds Of My World.
To mark his 10 years, he is set to debut his outstanding live setup this Autumn, playing a special show at a sold-out Outernet in London on October 23rd.
With the release of ‘Perspective’, Juls illustrates why he has become such a respected figure in the global music scene, one who continues to push musical boundaries and connect the dots between communities worldwide, with Masego adding his invaluable touch to this highly anticipated linkup.
