All Points East Festival (2024)
Some moments are destined. Londoner Loyle Carner headlined a festival for the first time in his local park, declaring it "the best night of my life." His set, featuring tracks from his three celebrated albums, showcased his seamless blend of retro and contemporary hip hop with a distinct British flair.
Nas commanded the East Stage with a set of era-defining hip hop classics. Dressed in a tan jacket and trousers, the East Coast icon delivered intricate wordplay over a DJ and live drum kit, covering his career from Illmatic to Magic 3. The crowd erupted for "If I Ruled the World" and "One Mic," proving Nas remains in a league of his own.
Ezra Collective wowed with a joyous, sprawling set on the West Stage, affirming their Mercury Prize-winning status. Lianne La Havas captivated with her soulful performance, her voice soaring from whisper to roar in an extended rendition of "Midnight." ENNY dominated the Cupra North Stage, her South London bars and melodic instinct electrifying the crowd.
Flying Lotus treated fans to the live debut of his new material, "Garmonbozia," while Melbourne’s Glass Beams captivated the East Stage with their cross-cultural instrumental music from Mahal.
Cymande, the influential British group overlooked in the 1970s, finally received long-overdue recognition. With a crowd eager to hear them, they showcased their timeless blend of jazz, Afrobeat, soul, and funk.
Additional highlights from APE Day Two included Nubya Garcia, Navy Blue, Sainté and MRCY.
