Wish Master sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
As a baby, reggae music was something my mum used to play to stop me crying. My earliest encounters with music were with poetry and drama between ages 8-10. Then between the ages 10-12, I started experimenting with music which started with grime and garage. Growing up I was a fan of Wiley, Kano, D Double E, Heartless Crew, Pay As You Go, So Solid, SLK, Dizzee Rascal, Damage and Sidewinder tape packs. My favourite DJ’s were Slimzee, Maximum and DJ Target.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
In terms of UK music, I was heavily influenced by people like Kano, PDC, Klashnekoff, Chester P. And from the U.S Hip-hop scene it was D-Block, Nas, Big L, 50 Cent, Fugees, DMX, The Roots and Outkast.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
So I Have a project called No CPR produced by Farma G Dropping on Bristol legend Tricky’s label; False Idols (Dropping 30th of August). I first linked with Farma doing a single and video called Rap Assassin for his new £10 Bag Series (I believe I’m on Volume 2). When he sent me the beat pack, I picked the track that stood out the most to me which happens to be track 1, then I reached out to Farma and said that I wanted to make a project with him, as it brought out a different side of me with my art and put me in different space. It was refreshing because music can get repetitive sometimes so it was great chance to push the boundaries and explore new pocket’s of production, more raw and gritty from the sample God Farma.
I also have a project towards the end of the year called 'His Story' produced by Kong The Artisan dropping late October/early November. The Kong project is a mixture of hard hitting beats and nice soulful samples but it’s definitely an amazing body of work. It’s a very personal one for me, I get very deep and vulnerable on it. It has some amazing features but I can’t say too much, all I will say is It will be coming out on Noel & Poland Records which is Kong The Artisan’s own imprint.
