EV - Cuppa Tea (Official Video)

EV releases his brand new single ‘Cuppa Tea’, an explosive slice of Punk and Bass that is unapologetically British, while confronting the problematic nature of the countries class divide.

EV is artist-songwriter-producer Evan Scase, who draws inspiration from a broad range of genres - including 90s Rave, Alternative, UK Rap and electronic dance - to provide a Friday night soundtrack that chronicles the highs and lows of British life.

‘Cuppa Tea’ reminds us to allow for duality in an increasingly polarised world. The titular cup of Rosie Lee, serves as a metaphor, reminding us to enjoy the small things in life that simultaneously exist alongside bigger systemic issues. “This song will never solve the problem, but if it gets you thinking about mental health, addiction and homelessness then that’s a win for me,” says EV. “Be nice and do what you can, have a good day and appreciate this somewhat beautiful life we have.”

“London Town is kind of pretty, it’s also kind of shitty and I call this place my city,” he raps, acknowledging the reality that two seemingly opposed things can be true at once. He utilises the aggression of DnB - and an impressively infectious hook - to express his anger, tearing into the rich, House of Commons and police, before the beat flips, making way for melancholic hip-hop production that allows him to process sadness.

Released via Polydor’s dance and electronic imprint Chaos Records, ‘Cuppa Tea’ continues the momentum of a string of independent releases including DJ’s, Dealers and Raves EP, which chronicles a night out in London and considers the “living for the weekend” mentality of British working class culture.

With his unabashedly relatable lyrics, EV has already garnered a cult following and become a one to watch for tastemakers; with early support from DJ Interplanetary Criminal, Abbie McCarthy, BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and BBC introducing. His work has already attracted some strong comparisons: “If you’re a fan of The Streets, Jamie T and Plan B, that’s the vibe that this track gives us,” announced Vick and Jordan of BBC Radio 1.

Last year his ‘Friday Nights’ single garnered Radio 1’s Track of the Week, and his feature on Ben Gerrans’English Lad’ went viral, finding a global community on TikTok, hitting Spotify’s Viral 50 across Europe and getting support from Apple Music Electronic editorial. This summer will see EV playing a string of festival shows including Boardmasters, Latitude and Boomtown.
