Kemi Ade - Gaslight (Single)

South London R&B singer Kemi Ade returns with her empowering new single, ‘Gaslight’, is out now via Doctored Sound.

Gaslight’ is produced by Simon Byrt (Jessie Ware) and draws on Kemi Ade’s 90s brit-pop influences, capturing the emotional chaos of being manipulated in a toxic relationship. The single sits within the realm of dreamy neo-soul, offering a plucky rolling bassline riff and loose R&B drums, accompanied by a hazy, entrancing synth and, of course, Kemi’s effortless, silky smooth vocals.

I wanted to create a song that not only expresses that frustration but also shows that you can be the villain or the victim in this story” - KemiAde

In the single, Kemi highlights the exhaustive merry-go-round of toxic gaslighting, from confusion to anger to self-doubt, resulting in a twisted reality. She asks “Why you gotta put the blame on me?”, and sings “And now you got me moving mad, avoiding all the questions I have… No accountability to shift blame, questioning my own f***ing sanity”.

Kemi Ade, born in Hammersmith and raised in South London, is a standout singer-songwriter in the UK's alternative R&B scene. Known for her eclectic blend of pop, R&B, jazz, indie, and neo-soul, Kemi draws from her rich Nigerian and British heritage to create music that resonates deeply with her listeners. Praised as “one of the UK's most exciting singers” by Complex, her work oozes warmth, cleverly dropping topical lyrics over sedative neo-soul-style instrumentals. Kemi’s received acclaim from COLORS OnlineNotionEarmilk, and Trench Magazine and has been featured on various Spotify and Apple editorial playlists. Influenced by Jill ScottErykah BaduNe-Yo, and Musiq Soulchild, Kemi’s releases, including the O.W.Nesty EP and The Coffee Shop EP, showcase her uniquely crafted style, blending 90s synths and pop with new-era funk basslines.

Gaslight’, the poignant new single from Kemi Ade, is set to be followed by more singles, as the exciting talent builds towards her forthcoming project, ‘THE FIX’.
