Shocka - Vulnerability Is The New Cool (Album)

Shocka Launches Album "Vulnerability Is The New Cool" on World Mental Health Day, October 10, 2024.

In a powerful celebration of World Mental Health Day, rapper and mental health advocate Shocka is thrilled to announce the release of his long-awaited album, "Vulnerability Is The New Cool," on October 10, 2024. This impactful project aims to challenge societal norms around vulnerability, particularly in the Black community, encouraging listeners to embrace their emotional truths.

Over the course of four years, Shocka collaborated closely with his longtime friend and producer, Otis, to bring this deeply personal project to life. The album reflects a transformative journey, during which Shocka honed his craft and delved into themes of mental health that resonate with many.

Shocka's commitment to mental wellness stems from his own experiences and a desire to spark crucial conversations. "I did an Instagram Live, and the women mentioned how many Black males were being sectioned and the suicide rates. I thought, ‘How can I decrease that number by just 1 percent?’" He goes on to explain "Vulnerability helped me, and I thought, if I can express that through music, people might find it cool and feel comfortable expressing themselves too."

The album's lead single, "Good Time," offers a refreshing contrast, focusing on the importance of balancing life's demands with joy. Shocka uses the track to reflect on the expectations placed on him and remind listeners of the importance of enjoying life amidst its challenges.

Shocka's sound draws inspiration from the artists who shaped his upbringing, such as Heartless Crew, Kano, and Wretch 32. He describes his genre as conscious pop, intertwining meaningful narratives with memorable melodies, influenced by icons like Kendrick Lamar and Nas. He has received recognition for his storytelling, winning two mental health awards, and remains focused on using his platform to share essential messages through his music.

Join Shocka in celebrating World Mental Health Day with the release of "Vulnerability Is The New Cool," and embrace the message of vulnerability that resonates throughout this inspiring album.
