Georgia Cécile - In New York (Official Video)

“In New York” is the new single from Glasgow-born, London-based vocalist Georgia Cécile. Following several “jazz” trips to New York and moving to London in 2022, the two-time Jazz FM Award-Winner was inspired to capture the energy of big-city life in her music. The result was “In New York”, a track rife with the possibility of self-discovery, romanticising the day-to-day, and soulful openness.

The track began life as an iPhone note Georgia wrote while in the iconic city, capturing images and feelings encountered while exploring – both light and dark, the joy and the pain“the sigh of a million metal beams: our melody”.  “In New York” is a snapshot of the feeling of New York – the ever-changing skyline, the mystery, the grit and the newness. Co-written and arranged with pianist Euan Stevenson, the song features a diverse roster of London-based musicians from across the world including Ferg Ireland (bass) and Incognito’s Francesco Mendolia. Co-produced by Ankit Suri and Georgia, the song radiates the sonic warmth of late 60s/early 70s soul-jazz, with a contemporary groove and lush live strings reminiscent of D’Angelo.

“I grew up in a huge musical family and my grandfather was a jazz pianist in the sixties, so the concept of togetherness is ingrained in my DNA. This music exudes a feeling of community and the transformative power of how we can flourish and celebrate when we come together to make something magical”.

Winner of UK Jazz Act of the Year and Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 Jazz FM AwardsGeorgia Cécile has been dubbed one of the finest new voices in UK music. Growing up in Glasgow’s vibrant jazz scene, Georgia’s grandfather was a renowned jazz pianist and passed on his love of the genre and its importance to her.

Georgia Cécile takes inspiration from the likes of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and Esperanza Spalding to D’Angelo and Duke Ellington. The vocalist and songwriter previously supported Gregory Porter on tour and performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra. She is making waves across the UK and European live scene, with sell-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London), Blue Note (Milan), Duc De Lombards (Paris), plus performances at Royal Albert Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
