SamRecks - BALANCE (EP)

SamRecks, aka REKKI, is one of the hottest rising rap talents in London. Continuing his scintillating run of form following singles such as “BACK BONE” and “HIT or MISS”, the multi-hyphenate finally drops off his highly anticipated sophomore EP, BALANCE, alongside lead single “Better Days” featuring Japanese rapper JUMADIBA.

“Better Days” continues to showcase the rare, subtle talent that underpins REKKI as a significant new artist. The South-East Londoner flexes his unique cadence and lyricism atop a melodic soundtrack layered with deep bass kicks and smooth synth notes, with the lead-single also highlighting Sam’s ability to tap the freshest international talent, JUMADIBA, who provides his instantly recognisable nuanced flows.

Sam’s sophomore EP, BALANCE, is a masterclass in contemporary UK rap from start to finish. With singles such as “BACK BONE”, “HIT or MISS”, “Embellishments” and “GOT ME LIKE” already in the sound sphere, and racking up hundreds of thousands of streams, the EP flexes three unheard tracks including EP opener “Everything”, and the immaculately crafted “BUBBLE GUM”. An incredibly talented artist mastering all components of his artistry, Sam is set to guarantee a huge amount of attention with this project and continues to prove himself as one of the most creative musicians emanating from these shores right now.

Speaking on the new EP, SamRecks states: “I started this project the day I quit my job last year, to focus on my passion full time and I am ending it, with the first music video I shot for this project, in December last year in Japan. REKKI 2024 started when I became jobless because I hated my job and is ending in Japan with me doing what I love. Always believe in yourself and your dreams, the moment you stop or give up, that is when you lose.”

Communicating a narrative of nostalgia and a personal life that leans heavily into creativity, fashion and love, “Embellishments” and his previous single “HIT or MISS” follow on from the rising star’s early viral singles “Love and Attention” (9.6M+ streams) and 2022’s “Would You Let Me” (2.3M+ streams), as well as his more recent Easier Said Than Done EP which boasts tracks such as “Situationship 2” (7.6M+ streams), and “BACK PACK” (7.7M+ streams).

Since first making waves, the independent artist’s consistent drip of releases has seen notable waves on the underground racing to well over 653K dedicated Spotify monthly listeners. Receiving key radio support across the likes of BBC RADIO 1, BBC 1XTRA, CAPITAL XTRA and REPREZENT (including an early co-sign from UK cult rap icon Potter Payper, who played him on BBC 1XTRA whilst covering Snoochie Shy’s show), critical attention has been swift across the likes of DAZED, HIGHSNOBIETY, THE FACE, CLASH, MIXMAG and 10 MAGAZINE with DAZED heralding Sam as ‘the hardest working artist in UK hip hop’ with a ‘superhuman work ethic’.

As well as significant fashion co-signs from the likes of BROKEN PLANET, BAPE, DAILY PAPER and LACOSTE Sam has been busy attending fashion weeks across London and Paris, sitting front and centre at the coveted KIDSUPER show in January, as well as the KIKO KOSTADINOV SS25 show.

Sam’s potent, thoughtful, unmistakably London sound points to a gifted musicality and mindset beyond his years. Involved in every aspect of his music from production to artwork to producing and editing his videos himself, his developing interest in skating and aggressive DIY mentality excitingly recalls the likes of Tyler, The Creator or A$AP Rocky. With a considered eye on both music and fashion, and the kind of deeper introspection across his bars that underlines a keen intelligence, SamRecks looks set to continue the growing attention around him as one of the UK’s most exciting new homegrown talents.
