Wretch 32 - Feels (A COLORS SHOW)
North London rap luminary Wretch 32 premieres a new track “Feels” for COLORSxSTUDIOS. Championing all of the components to his signature sound, with thought provoking lyrics and intricate wordplay, “Feels” takes listeners through the hardships of London life, love and loss, and sees Wretch make his COLORS show debut for their coveted series.
In October 2024 Wretch returned with a powerful new single, “Black and British”,featuring Little Simz and Benjamin A.D. Timed within Black History Month and at once deeply personal yet universal, “Black and British” was a bold and uncompromising statement that delves into the heart of the Black British experience. Wretch's Grandmother Beverley Scott is poignantly sampled at the end of the track, taken from the milestone ‘Scenes From The Farm’ Broadwater Farm estate documentary, first televised in 1988.
2024 was peppered with other select, re-introductory moments; Wretch 32’s ‘Daily Duppy’ performance, the poignant ‘My Windrush Lines’ released on Windrush Day, and his long-term project ‘Moments of Silence’ shared on DSPs for the first time, which served as a profound reminder of our collective duty to confront and dismantle societal injustices and unravel the threads of societal discord to pave the way for rebuilding communities torn apart by prejudice and hate. Wretch 32 – a lifelong Arsenal fan – also produced a bespoke freestyle which featured on the Premier League’s ‘No Room For Racism’ video. The initiative highlights the contribution of Black, Asian and minority ethnic people in football and showcases the importance of diversity on and off the pitch. Wretch recently presented the New Establishment Menswear Award with Tems to Ahluwalia at the British Fashion Awards and graced the cover of Arena Homme + in Pharrell’s new season Louis Vuitton.
Over the past two decades, Wretch 32 has been crowned as one of the most impactful, creative and poetic voices in British music. From mainstream chart success to the critical acclaim of albums Growing Over Life (2016) and Upon Reflection (2019), to his current role as Creative Director at 0207 Def Jam, to the release of his first book Rapthology: Lessons in Life and Lyrics with Penguin, later re-released by #Merky Books, he has emerged as a vital player in the voicing of contemporary Black British expression and art. In 2022, for Stormzy’s viral freestyle Mel Made Me Do It, he scripted the widely lauded poem narrated by Michaela Coel, powerfully capturing the tides of Black Britain’s current artistic renaissance.
