Tera Kòrá is a connector. The Curaçao-raised DJ and producer released his debut EP, Ultramar, on February 7th. The title, meaning "overseas" in Latin, reflects his exploration of the connection between Caribbean and African music. Through experimentation with sound and styles, Ultramar takes listeners on a musical journey through a rich palette of Afro beats, Caribbean music, reggae, soul, and jazz. Each track features collaborations with international artists, including Nigeria’s AYLØ, Ghana’s Yung D3mz and Twitch 4EVA, and Netherlands-based Yung Dada. With this EP, Tera Kòrá transcends borders, bringing to life the musical richness of the Caribbean and African regions through both sound and collaboration.
On Ultramar, Tera Kòrá transports listeners to the warmth and romance of Curaçao, the island where he grew up. The EP exudes the island’s loving atmosphere, with lyrical stories that make listeners feel as though they’re on Curaçao, no matter where they are in the world.
About Ultramar, Tera Kòrá says: “A significant part of my youth was spent in Curaçao. My time on the island shaped my identity and sparked my love for music. When I started making music, I noticed how few people from my generation were creating music that could appeal to a broader audience. This realization ignited a desire to create a project that highlights the rich musical traditions of my culture and brings them to the forefront. My musical project is not only an expression of my passion for music but also a tribute to my roots and the inspiring sounds of my island.”
The EP opens with the previously released single ‘Jealous of the Sun’ (feat. AYLØ & Thierry Ganz), where Tera Kòrá collaborates with artists including AYLØ, for whom he previously produced the Colors Studio single ‘Hey!’. The journey continues with the soulful track ‘Auburn Eyes’ (feat. Leela Rosa & Justice The Artiste) and the Afro-infused ‘Maria’ (feat. Yung D3mz & Yung Dada).
The most energetic track on the EP is ‘Plan’ (feat. Twitch 4EVA & Laud Shaba), driven by an Amapiano-inspired beat that combines raw and uplifting emotions. According to Tera Kòrá, ‘Plan’ is an ode to independence and self-reliance, celebrating the strength to take control of your destiny and remain resilient despite life’s challenges.
While the rest of the EP leans into reggae, dancehall, and afrobeat, ‘Plan’ stands out with its raw, uplifting energy. It reflects the same sounds and influences of the African and Caribbean diaspora that run throughout the project. “It’s my way of showing different sides of myself while keeping the message consistent,” says Tera Kòrá.
The EP concludes with ‘If I Could Choose’ (feat. Nakeyo), a true standout thanks to its soulful reggae sound.
