Leicester-born, London-based Shivani Day releases her new single ‘Know When You Call’ via FAMM. Merging futuristic blend of sonics, Shivani creates a soundscape to empower her listeners to know they deserve more. A joint production effort from long-term collaborator Minas and Shivani, they draw from Reggae, Dancehall and traditional influences, which has always been crucial to Shivani’s discography. Shivani cites the track as “an ode to the girls crying in the club” and challenges her songwriting abilities to write from a new perspective on the relationships closest to you. The synergy between the production, Shivani’s vocals and the visualiser is an example of her high standards, ensuring everything she touches embodies an avant-garde aesthetic.
“I wanted to write from the perspective of having a conversation with yourself, when you know that you should listen to your mind over your heart and the emotions one goes through during this process. Big crying in the club energy, almost an inner monologue trying to convince yourself not to go back to someone or something.” I wanted people to feel transcended to a futuristic space age club in their minds.”
Music has been ingrained in the life of Shivani Day from birth until now. The Leicester-born, London-based artist released her debut project ‘That Which Is Not’ via FAMM in the summer of 2024, re-establishing herself in her current found form as an artist. Formally a DJ who previously lent her abilities to Boiler Room, Foundation FM, Balamii and Azeema, Shivani made an organic shift into a music-maker exploring curiosities to write music during lockdown. Having worked closely with Shae’s Universe as a vocal coach, she developed early demo’s which would later find themselves into a 6-track EP which was co-signed by BBC East Midlands, COLORS, Clash and Notion who cited her as an “R&B breakthrough artist showing that the sky’s the limit.” At a young age exuded independence and introspection, traits that guided her through her early years. Immersed in a diverse array of musical genres thanks to her father's eclectic tastes, Shivani's musical palette was broad and unconventional for her age and cultural background. During her early youth, being exposed to genres such as Chicago house, Latin, Jazz, Euro electronic, reggae, Gregorian chant music and more.
Marking her first release since debut EP, ‘That Which Is Not’, Shivani plans for ‘Know When You Call’ to warm listeners up for what’s to follow this summer.
