Haviah Mighty ft: Poiison - Pursuit (Remix) (Official Video)
Toronto-based rapper Haviah Mighty joins forces with Queens, New York artist and songwriter Poiison on the “Pursuit” remix.
Emerging over gritty yet stylistic production, Haviah’s dynamic flow weaves between Poiison’s distinctive vocals as the pair execute their quick-witted and self-assured verses. Amongst emotive keys and moody synths, the remix comes as an atmospheric duet, laced with personality and intent. Poiison’s own steep trajectory has seen her earn collabs with rap culture heavyweights including Cash Cobain and Styles P – and here she feels in full flow asserting her dominance with the line “They love me, but they know I’m one of one, after me there’s none to come.” Continuing the nonchalant yet powerful lyricism, Haviah raps “All my goals I stack em high and ring it all up, like a robber get the bag and fill it all up” as she continues to carve out spaces that boldly defy gendered expectations for women in hip-hop.
Delving into the story behind the track Haviah tells us: “The remix of ‘Pursuit’ channels the momentum, hunger and enthusiasm required to hunt down your dreams, continually, over and over again. Just over a year ago, an important member of my team left the music business. This stunted my output, caused me major pause, and slowed down my momentum. The pause gave me rest, but also restlessness. In that time, I had to accept stagnancy. I had to be very patient. I had to allow my doubts and fears to exist, and live in that discomfort … I didn’t know what was going to happen, and I simply had to wait. The universe responded in the months that passed. I authentically aligned with new individuals who worked in that same sector of the music industry. Soon, I was back in the momentum of creating music. In contrast to the pause I took, which was necessary but not a choice, I fell back into doing what I love everyday. But this time , I had new perspectives, new opinions, new strategy, new approaches, new producers, new hunger … It feels good to ‘chase’ my dreams again. Pursuit is Round 2. Pursuit is the new pace. And after the November drop, I’m back with a remix featuring NY Queens rapper ‘Poiison’.”
Talking us through things from her perspective, Poiison tells us: “When I first heard the original of Pursuit, we connected the loops and decided to do the remix. The song was already perfect, so when I listened, my goal was to figure out how I could bring myself into an already perfectly created song. I did what I do best: I talked my Queens fly shhh melodically. I wanted to warm up the coldness of the song. I linked up with Haviah in Toronto, which was literally cold, and we shot a movie and had an amazing night. Simple 1-2-3: connecting and making great records. Such a pleasure, such a Talented soul.”
With the new remix seeing Haviah duel and spar with another of the landscape’s hotly-tipped rising rap females, 2025 looks set to be a standout year of empowerment and assertion for the international star.
