Footshooter Finds Light in the Dust with The Oasis.

South London producer and DJ Footshooter, aka Barney Whittaker, returns with The Oasis — a rich, collaborative record that lives where broken beat meets jazz, soaked in soul and storytelling.

Built over three years, the album is less a timeline and more a moodboard — a personal sanctuary shaped by creative kinship. “The title refers to a wish for everyone to find their oasis among whatever desert is surrounding them,” Barney says. For him, it’s music, community, and the alchemy of collaboration.

Previous singles like “Here To Learn” (ft. Andre Espeut) and “Obelisk” (ft. Natty Wylah & brother portrait) introduced the record’s expansive palette, but it’s on tracks like “What You Saw” (ft. MA.MOYO) and “Boomerang” (ft. Native & Wilf Petherbridge) where the album's soul really unfurls — dreamlike, layered, and full of quiet intention. “Boomerang” is especially tender, a father-son meditation set to lift-off-worthy horns.

James Mollison of Ezra Collective brings fire twice, including on “Surrey Canal Road” — a love letter to the creative spirit of South Bermondsey. And Allysha Joy, Cynthia, and Sara El Harrak round out the lineup with lush, expressive vocals that elevate the introspective arc.

Footshooter’s trademark broken beat grooves weave through jazz, house, and hip hop influences, always rooted in a deep respect for musical dialogue. Whether with his solo work, his project SAUL (with Jack Stephenson-Oliver), or via his long-standing Balamii residency Sonic Fruits, Barney continues to shape UK underground music with warmth and intention.

The Oasis isn’t just an album — it’s an invitation to pause, connect, and find your own sonic refuge.
