Hector Plimmer ft: Andrew Ashong - New Knew (Single)

South London producer, drummer, and all-round sonic shapeshifter Hector Plimmer returns with New Knew, a radiant collaboration with British-Ghanaian artist Andrew Ashong. The track is a teaser from Plimmer’s forthcoming album Infinity Mirrors, set to drop on June 20th via his own imprint, Power in Comfort.

“New Knew” unfolds in three movements—funky and rich with synth bass, floating into a dreamy middle section, before landing on a forward-moving Bossa groove. It’s a love song at its core, soundtracking that subtle, powerful moment when feelings crystallise into clarity.

What started as an instrumental slowly bloomed over five years, as Ashong layered vocals and guitar, building a soundscape that feels part cosmic jazz, part soulful meditation—think Sun Ra on a London night bus. Ashong sums it up poetically: “A re-velation, a re-view, a re-membering, a re-minder, a re-birth. A new knew.”

Infinity Mirrors also features contributions from Laura Misch, Tawiah, Julia Biel, and more, and reflects Hector’s ongoing journey of creative self-exploration. “With each new revision I have learnt something else about my creative practice,” he says.

Plimmer’s music has long defied categorisation—moving effortlessly between jazz, beats, broken rhythms, and electronic experimentation. Whether remixing Morcheeba or composing on Google’s AI synth, he’s an artist always tuned in to the future while honouring the past.

If “New Knew” is anything to go by, Infinity Mirrors will be an album well worth reflecting on.
