10 Questions: Spit Kids
For the past four years I’ve lived in Norwich, Spit Kids have been prowling the local venues tearing up the rule book for live shows in the city. They run various exciting collectives and genre bending side projects with up and coming local musicians. Their music is singed with emo rap influences and has been steeped with post-Soundcloud verses. We figured it was time we chatted to some local talent hailing from the same city as our very own Matt Neville.
1. Contestant, what’s your name, chosen craft and where are you based?
My name is Dan from the band Spit Kids. Me and Tim (Moth) are both from Norwich but we don’t actively play there.
2. How would you describe your sound?
It’s a mix of our influences. Me and Tim have very similar ones, but it’s defo a weird mix. From Atari Teenage Riot to Chief Keef. You can sort of hear it in our sound. I think so anyway.
3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?
We are both really into Yung Lean, and he’s a huge influence on our aesthetic. The punk, trap crossover in his fashion, and his music, we do a similar thing. Lil Peep too, the way he crossed over those sounds is certainly something that inspired us.
4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?
Hasn’t really happened yet as we aren’t overly active. We’ve played some cool shows though, hopefully when they’ve controlled the virus we can do some more of those.
5. Do you have any advice for our readers who maybe trying to play the mad game of music?
Do what makes you happy, fuck what anyone else thinks. Experiment, and have fun with it.
6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?
Harmony Korine. I’d like to make some weird film with him because his aesthetic is iconic. I’d like to work with Three 6 Mafia, or someone from that scene too because it would be wild. If he was still alive, I’d love to write a book with Jack Kerouac.
7. What have you got planned for the not so distant future?
We’re always making music, but no plans to release anything just yet.
8. What’s the album you’ve played more than any other?
In Rainbows by Radiohead. It’s the perfect record, if you’re happy, if you’re sad, whatever.
9. What’s the best concert you’ve been to and where was it?
I saw Crystal Castles many years ago, and that changed my life and how I wanted to make music and perform.
10. Name three things you can’t live without?
Music, Football, Bananas.
