Sola Interview

1. So tell me, how did it all begin?  What sparked your love for music?

   My parents are really big music lovers and always surrounded me with music playing around the house growing up. They forced me into piano lessons as a kid which I initially hated and then grew to love. This got me into production and inspired me to teach myself guitar and bass. I then started to get into singing later.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

   The artist I’d want to work with more than anyone in the world is Andre 3000. He’s an absolute visionary. I also really love Arca and would love to do a collaboration with her.

3. Your new EP is due out soon, are you able to tell us if there's plans for a full album and when we can expect it?

   I’m working on another project that will hopefully come out spring next year! I’m not fully sure what form it will take yet. 

4. How would you describe your sound?

   It’s music you can simultaneously cry and dance to. It’s a blend of soul and electronic music with some classical influences blended in. It all sounds a bit underwater and floaty. 

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

   I don’t have a specific proudest moment, I just feel blessed to be able to creatively express myself through music.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music? Don’t overthink things. Stay true to yourself and don’t try and become anyone else.

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

   I discovered this sick artist drea the vibe dealer on bandcamp last month.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

   I'm working on it, but I'm honestly quite awful at remembering to listen to music when I’m not making it, so rarely have anything on rotation or on a playlist. When I do listen to music, I am usually listening to older stuff.  Two albums that I always return to is Dummy by Portishead and Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

   Go on long walks, read books and watch documentaries.

10. Name Three things you can't live without?

    My family, my piano, and red wine.
