Rachel Foxx - Fluorescent EP
A follow-up to the acclaimed debut ’FLAME’ project, Rachel Foxx has unveiled her new EP, ’FLUORESCENT’.
Released on Friday, this vibrant, musically diverse piece incorporates everything from funk and soul to R&B and UKG across its eight tracks. The project kicks off with ‘Need You (Intro)’, a laidback cut which sets the tone for the second track ‘Morning’, a sexy slice of soul that sees Rachel’s vocals climb in the seductive hook, “you have to remember me in the morning, we’ll make love till the morning”.
Things progress with Rachel’s most recent single ‘What You Need’ up next, a more up-tempo record which provokes a nostalgic feeling of late 90s/early noughties. Mixtape Madness described the song as “an up-beat and feel-good instrumental” that sees “Rachel glaze the rhythmic backdrop with her rich and soulful tone”.
Following this is the jazz-inflicted ‘Progress’, her first single release of the new decade about self-empowerment and moving on from a relationship. Rachel slips back into the teasing mood with ‘Give To Receive’, a nod back to her earlier work. Further highlights come in the form of East London DJ and producer Joss Ryan’s bumping 2-step remix of ‘Progress’, featuring the slick lyrical flow of grime MC Capo Lee, and the high-energy ‘Is It Me?’, two tracks that ensure the EP finishes with a bang.
Taking inspiration from legends such as Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Jon B, Donnell Jones, Floetry and Toni Braxton, Rachel Foxx prides herself on her mix of old-school and modern elements of R&B and Soul. 2018 debut EP ‘FLAME’ received extensive, high-profile support from the likes of Sir Elton John, Diplo and Snoop Dogg, who all commented on the singer’s stunning voice via social media.
Other career highlights include 10 million streams across her back-catalogue, a lauded performance for COLORS, a sold-out show at Camden Assembly and supporting Kelis, Joey Bada$$ and Little Dragon on their respective tours.
Following the precedent set by Rachel Foxx’s debut EP, FLUORESCENT is proof that it was well worth the wait.
