WORD UP: BEDROOM BEATS & B-SIDES

A quiet revolution took place in the first decades of the 21st Century. Fuelled by an abundance of new, cheaper technology and freer access to production tools; aspiring producers were able to master the art of beatmaking from bedroom studios and explore new ideas about composition and performance collaboratively, whilst making a foray into the industry.

“The music industry was caught looking the other way, head in the sand, handing out golden parachutes. In the used bins we would marvel at their trash, what they couldn’t sink their teeth into, upcycling it in our way.” – Daedelus

Bedroom Beats & B-Sides: Instrumental Hip Hop & Electronic Music at the Turn of the Century is the first comprehensive book to document the rise of the bedroom producer scene and the artists behind it; from the trip-hop, jungle and IDM of the 90s to the shift to instrumental hip hop into the 00s. Laurent Fintoni pieces together a cultural, social and musical history through a huge amount of research and over a hundred interviews with the global community of fringe idealists who made it happen!

“This book is a deeply personal project that has consumed me for over 20 years” says Fintoni “I hope it can do justice to the vibrancy and importance of the culture it seeks to celebrate and its people.” Fintoni provides a truly insightful look at a vital era of modern music from a global perspective – here’s to 30 more years!

Bedroom Beats & B-Sides will hit shelves in early November this year and is available now to pre-order. By preordering now you will receive your copy early with your name in the book!
