Uruguayan born producer, LILA TIRANDO A VIOLETA, is one of the brightest emerging talents in the new wave of creatives coming out of Latin America. Describing her recent FACT Mix as the ?soundtrack for a non-animated 2020 dystopia?, LILA draws inspiration from a diverse pool of genres - ranging from CyberPunk Anime, Pop Anthems, to Alt Dance and Latin Percussion. We sat down with her to see what shes all about.

1.    So tell me, how did it all begin?  What sparked your love for music?

About 10 years ago I started playing synthesizer. Slowly began collecting gear, building up my own circuit bent instruments and merely experimenting. At first I played live a lot and barely recorded, mostly drone and glitch music at DIY gigs.

Shortly after I moved to the UK briefly and started spending a lot of time in recording studios, there I begun taking music a lot more seriously.

2.    Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Regardless of what my music might indicate, when it comes to influences and tastes, I’ve always been quite obsessed with genres like post punk, folk and new wave; but if I’d have to pick someone more similar and contemporary to my music that would be dreamy to collaborate with I’d say AG COOK or Blank Banshee

3.    Your new album is about to drop, and I was lucky enough to have a listen before the release date, it’s a great album, I know it?s very personal to you, what were some of the challenges you faced while putting it together?

Firstly thank you ! And yes, it was quite a personal album. I think one of the deepest challenges I faced is that my neurological illness affected my vision and audition quite a lot. So due to pain while recording, I had to take a lot of extra time with each song, way more time than what I was used to before being diagnosed.

4.    How would you describe your sound?

I am quite restless and always trying to experience and learn new things. So I try not to stick to genres nor repeat styles in between releases. I guess an ever evolving/changing sound ?

5.    What?s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

With my band A.M.I.G.A we’ve played pride parade in several cities around the region.  Loved playing at the Buenos Aires one. But honestly my proudest moment was playing main stage in my hometown Montevideo for around 100,000 people.

7.    Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

All the collaborators on 'Limerencia' have been on my radar for quite a while hence I invited them to join the album, so I’d say check their music out.

8.    What albums is on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

John Maus - Screen Memories

Dean Blunt - Black Metal

Virus - Locura

Caroline Polacheck - Pang

9.    What do you like to get up too when your not my making music?

Reading poetry. Going to flea markets. Walking around Montevideo streets listening to Grouper.

10. Name Three things you can?t live without?

Kittens. My family. Doctors & medication I suppose ? Haha.

Lila, thanks for taking the time out to chat with me and the best of luck with the new album.

Thank you.
