PREMIERE: Toby Corton - Lost in you/ Wide Lined Eyes

Queer creative Toby Corton continues to charm with his latest soul-tinged single Lost In You / Wide Lined Eyes, out today via AWAL. Co-produced by Toby Corton with Earl Saga (Finn Askew, J.Grrey, Arlo Parks, Easy Life) and mixed by John Hendicott (Jamie Woon, Chipmunk, Nick Mulvey).

Both tracks have dreamy elements like the feeling of floating as Toby’s voice washes over. Soaring into another realm let the track take you on a journey leading you into peace bliss. This is a track I would listen to on the beach with the warm sun beating down on my face. The hazy guitars gives it a dream-pop mixed with soul feel.

Lost In You is a love song about completely losing track of time when you're so wrapped up in someone. “You're only aware time is passing because of the changing light, but you're completely consumed by the moment and don't want it to ever end,” Toby explains. The single once again showcases Toby’s ability to blend neo-soul with jazz and pop sensibilities, creating a sound that is wonderfully warm and fuzzy as a result.

On B-side Wide Lined Eyes we see Toby going back to his traditional jazz roots. Toby’s quintessentially British vocal soars delicately over the mellow musicality, sounding instantly akin to the likes of Amy Winehouse or Joy Crookes as a result.

Talking about the single, Toby elaborates, “Wide Lined Eyes is an ode to a fallen star. It's about celebrity or more accurately tabloid culture and the way, particularly when I was growing up, it would tear people down and get up in their business. I don't think it's quite the same as it used to be, or maybe it is and I just don't engage with it anymore? I just remember we had people in the public eye clearly struggling, and they were used as tabloid fodder. Even in their darkest days, their music lifted the spirits of so many, but they weren't shown the same courtesy.
