Monét - 10 Questions + Just One Of Those Days (Official Video)

Hailing from Peckham, emerging singer/songwriter Monét releases her new single ‘Just One Of Those Days’ taken from her forthcoming EP. Showcasing her poetic tendencies, ’Just One Of Those Days’ artfully slides between Neo-Soul, Spoken word and Alt-R&B as her lyrics express feelings of love, life, and an overarching sense of summer days throughout.

Monét sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Music has always been very popular in my household. I grew up listening to Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Slum Village, A tribe Called Quest, Frank Sinatra etc. So naturally I fell in love with sounds.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My top influences right now are Solange, Ojerime and Alexandria. I’d love to work with Solange one day.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the coronavirus pandemic?

The topics of my songs are very heavily influenced by my own experiences. Being inside during lockdown made it a challenging to write new material as I wasn’t really experiencing much.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I always find this question difficult to answer! I would describe my sound as warm. It’s a fusion of all the sounds I’ve grown to love.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Releasing my first EP and being featured in Gaup mag.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

I definitely would say go for it. If it makes you happy its 100% something worth pursuing. Also don’t be afraid to explore, with music there are no rules!

7. Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Joe James, Emil, Zino Vinci, Jamilah Barry.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Cut of Cloth – Alexandria (the rest aren’t albums but have been on heavy rotation) Silk Sonic – Leave the door open, DENZINO ft. Sifa – Red Pirates.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like to read, go for walks in my nearby park, watch films and tend to my plants!

10. Name Three things you can't live without when you’re in the studio?

My engineer (DENZINO), water, my phone (it has all my lyrics) and loads of snacks.
